Principal's Message
Dear Sabre families,
Whether you went away or stayed local, we hope you had a good break!
There were many amazing accomplishments and feats from our Sabres in the last ten days. Where to start?
The first ever SAL Robotics Team competed in their first competition and finished in the top third of schools. What’s more impressive is the collaboration and sportsmanship between schools. Also, our Debate Team has been rocking, rolling and debating across schools from across the province. They have been placing very high and made a name for themselves at a recent U of A tournament.
An absolutely amazing fall season for Sabre Athletics. All six major fall teams, including volleyball and football made it to the Division One Semi Finals, which is remarkable in itself. Our golf and cross country teams made their incredible mark across the province.
Both senior boys and girls volleyball teams brought back the division one championship this past Thursday in a packed Scona gym. For those who were able to attend, it was a special night and memorable to be a part of. Our teams showed a ton of moxie and we should all be so proud. Our senior volleyball teams are both heading into provincials ranked one, the first time in school history. Another couple of banners to add to the rafters our students can look at in years from now and realize what they have accomplished.
Speaking about provincials, kudos to our SAL football team on their provincial playoff win over Calgary’s Notre Dame. They are one win away from the top ranked provincial final.
It’s neat to go into Edmonton and other regions of the province and hear the positive vibes coming our way and being recognized as a place where excellence is happening. This is only made possible by the staff that are contributing to student engagement outside the classroom that most definitely impacts inside our hallways and the culture we are striving for.
Thank you to the fall coaches, mentors, and program leaders - Erin Tomkow, Andrew Harrison, Mike Shrimpton, Heather Curran, Pete Stamatopolous, Doug Siewart, Matt Rivard, Haven Wong, Mark Van Drunen, Grant Melnyk, Cam Fraser, Brad Duxbury, Adam Cooper, Aaron Chayballo, Brock Doerksen.
