Notes from Stonehedge Elementary
February 10, 2023
Message from Stonehedge Elementary School Principal
Dear Stonehedge Families,
Happy Friday!
Our students are ready for "Souper" Bowl Sunday! Food and snacks donations for our students and families in need were added to either the Eagles or the Chiefs bin. (Take a look at the pictures below...) our Stonehedge students are predicting a pretty close game! AND, thank you so much for your generous donations.
In case you didn't notice, love is in the air here at Stonehedge. We are looking forward to Valentine's Day next week. To prepare we had Buddy Day this week. Buddy classes came together shared a story about love and caring for others. They made Valentine's Day hearts with heartfelt message to display throughout the school.
Just a reminder-- we try to go outside as much as possible. Send your child with snow clothes each day!
~Amanda
Positivity Project
This week's character strength focus is Cheering on others' success. Cheering on others' success means that we can be happy for other people and celebrate their successes as they happen.
Next week's P2 character strength is Love.

PTA News
Souper Bowl
Students are getting ready for the big game by helping the community. Students were asked to bring to school donations of non-perishable foods. They placed the food items into bins labeled with the team they want to win. The true winner is the Camillus community. The generous donation will go to Stonehedge families in need and a local food pantry.

Enrichment
Every year, the Stonehedge PTA sponsors an Enrichment Program that enrich the lives and education of our children. These activities are funded and supported by the PTA. We are so excited that on Saturday, March 11th, Stonehedge Enrichment Day is returing after a two year COVID hiatus. There are so many different activities for students to choose from. These activities are not offered at every school and we here at Stonehedge are so lucky to have this event. Look for the registration forms that went home this week. The deadline to register is 2/15/23.
Gertrude Hawk Fundraiser Continues
Only a few more days remain to get your orders in for our biggest fundraiser! All order forms and payments in full are due back to Stonehedge by 2/15/23. Sale proceeds will fund PTA events. This fundraiser helps pay for events like Enrichment Day.
Yearbook
Don't miss out of preserving your child's memories! The 2022-2023 yearbook is $17.00 and will be delivered to your student at school in June. Orders are only online at: https://link.entourageyearbooks.com/my/Stonehedge
Kindergarten Registration Has Begun!
Kindergarten Registration for the 2023-2024 school year is now open and will go until March 31, 2023.
Watch for registration information on the Central Registration webpage. If you have any questions, email the Central Registrar at centralregistrar@westgenesee.org, or call Central Registration at (315) 487-4683.
When registering, parents should be prepared to upload the following:
- proof of residency (ie. mortgage or property statement or signed lease agreement)
- proof of immunizations
- proof of age
A physical examination is also required and a dental certificate is requested for entry into kindergarten. These examinations should be done up to one year prior to the first day of school. Children who enter kindergarten this fall must be five years of age on or before December 1, 2023.
Universal Pre-Kindergarten Registration is Open!
West Genesee partners with local Community-Based Organizations (CBO) for its Pre-K program. Currently, there is one classroom at Split Rock Elementary and 5 classrooms with our CBOs. The number of available seats is dependent on the UPK allocation the District receives from NYS. The State Budget is adopted on or near April 1.
To be eligible for UPK during the 2023-2024 school year, a child must:
- Have a birthdate between December 2, 2018 and December 1, 2019
- Reside in the West Genesee Central School District
In the event that more registrations are received than can be accommodated, the district will conduct an initial selection process via an open lottery in which children will be selected at random.
Those children who have completed the registration process by March 17 will be part of the initial selection process.
Families who were part of the initial selection process will be called in order of selection and informed:
- whether their child has been accepted to the program, and
- which site (including hours of the program) is available for their child;
OR
- where their child is on the waiting list.
Families will be contacted by April 14, 2023.
If at any point after the initial selection process there are more students registered than seats available, students will be placed on the waiting list in the order that their registration was completed.
Transportation to and from the program is the responsibility of parents/guardians, and students must attend the program five days a week to maintain their seat.
Look for registration information on the Central Registration webpage at: https://www.westgenesee.org/district-services/registration/.
