Mrs. Turner's 2nd Grade - Week 3 News and Objectives
News
- Please remember to send your child to school prepared every day with his/her backpack and responsibility folder. Please check the folder for papers, and review and sign the behavior chart each day.
- Our first monthly homework and reading log goes home this week (see my note on our homepage).
- We are lucky to have an iPad for each student in 2nd grade to use to extend our learning. To help your child focus and be successful, please send earbuds to school to plug into his/her iPad. They will be put into a ziplock bag with his/her name. *earbuds only, no headphones please.
- If your child has dismissal changes, please always contact me. Changes will not be made unless we hear them from an adult. There must be a dismissal tag for every child you pick up. Starting this week, you will need to present your ID to the front office if you do not have your tags. If you need additional tags, please let me know.
- In the case of an absence or early dismissal, make up work will be sent home, and must be completed and turned in the next school day.

Reading and Writing
Reading Focus: Strategies good readers use
We will reread and use pictures to understand a text.
We will look for chunks in words to figure out unknown words.
We will ask questions and make predictions.
Writing Focus: Writing a response to reading
We will write brief comments about the book we read together.
We will write brief comments about books we read independently.
We will draw and label pictures showing what our brief comments are about.

Grammar
We will write complete sentences with subject-verb agreement.
A sentence includes a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought. I run every day. We had a lot of fun.
The subject has to agree with the verb tense.
Ex: The child runs. The children run.
Math
- We will use place value to compare whole numbers up to 1,200 using comparative language, numbers, and symbols (<,> or =).
- We will use place value to order whole numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least up to 1,200 using comparative language.
Social Studies
Focus: Patriotic songs and symbols
We will identify selected patriotic songs, including “The Star Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful."
We will identify selected symbols such as state and national birds, flowers, and patriotic symbols.
