They also helped host the Hobart High School American Red Cross blood drive event. Their hard work planning these blood drives earned senior Nejere Onomakpome a $750 scholarship through the American Red Cross!
FInally, Angelina Zepeda and Kendall Lemon competed in First Aid/CPR at the HOSA State Leadership Competition. The two also went above and beyond to become First Aid/CPR certified after the competition! Amazing job to each of these students for their hard work and dedication.
The night was clear, warm, and bright as our Brickie Class of 2021 walked out onto the Brickyard and celebrated their accomplishments. Among the field of students were futures in the military, arts, athletics, entrepreneurship, doctorates and those simply craving the freedom. We were excited to celebrate each and every one of our Brickies and know their futures achieved if they remember to work, work, work toward your goals.
During the night Mrs. Adams, Director of Guidance for the School City of Hobart, recognized the number of seniors who had earned early college credits, college degrees, and those who had participated in career and technical education taking at least 6 credits in a career-technical education sequence. In total, we have 200 students who had accomplished this 6-credit sequence. These students were recognized when their name was called to receive their diploma. Students who earned early college credit or completed a career-technical education sequence wore a gold stole.
The graduating class of 2021 had a total of 221 graduates receiving early college credits. Of those 221 seniors, 155 earned more than 15 college credits while in high school. Throughout their four years of high school, the Class of 2021 had earned 6,594 college credits with a total savings of $1,186,132.70!
We also had our second cohort of students completing the Indiana College Core, which is a 30-credit sequence that will transfer to public universities in Indiana as one year of college. This year we had 23 students completing this credential.
In addition to the 23 students earning the Indiana College Core, we had 24 seniors who earned their Associate’s Degree this school year, which means they graduated from Hobart High School with both a high school diploma AND a two-year college degree. For the first time ever, we even had a student who earned their Associate’s in Medical Assisting and another student who earned their Associate’s in Energy Technology.
Finally, we had 8 students earning a Certificate or Technical Certificate in Business Administration, Energy Technology, Medical Assisting, CNA and Dementia Care, and Basic Emergency Medical Studies.
The head-start these Brickies earned for their next chapter in life will impact them in such a positive way. Congratulations to each of them and best of luck as they navigate the paths of their future!
The School City of Hobart Is One Of 19 Districts In The Country To Earn The PLTW Distinguished District Recognition!
The School City of Hobart is a 2020-21 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished District for providing broad access to transformative learning opportunities for students through its PLTW programs. We are one of just 19 districts across the U.S. to receive this honor. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that serves millions of PreK-12 students and teachers in schools across the U.S.
The PLTW Distinguished District recognition honors districts committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. To be eligible for the designation, the district had to have had 20 percent or more of its students in each grade, PreK-12, participate in a PLTW program during the 2019-20 school year.
Through PLTW programs, students develop in-demand knowledge and skills that they will use both in school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take. As PLTW students progress through grades PreK-12, they are empowered to engage in problem-solving and process thinking, develop technical knowledge and skills, build communication skills, and explore career opportunities. The School City of Hobart offers PLTW Launch (PreK-5), PLTW Gateway (6-8), and PLTW [Computer Science, Engineering, and/or Biomedical Science] throughout each of our schools.
“It is a great honor to recognize each of our schools for their unwavering commitment to provide students with an excellent educational experience despite the unusual circumstances and unique challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic presented to the educational landscape this past year,” said Dr. Vince Bertram, President and CEO of PLTW. “They should be very proud of their achievements in unlocking their students’ potential and equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in life beyond the classroom no matter what career path they choose.” The School City of Hobart is part of a community of PreK-12 schools, colleges and universities, and corporate and philanthropic partners across the country united around a passion for providing students with inspiring, engaging, and empowering learning opportunities.
