Tennis Camp is Next Week!!! SIGN UP CLOSES FRIDAY!
Please make sure you sign up for tennis camp ASAP! Registration closes Friday morning! The direct link and more detailed information is below! If any alumni and/or current HS players can help with camp, please sign up using the link below. Current HS players can sign up to help with beginners and stay for their own camp after. Alumni can sign up to help with the both camps if they choose to. Please sign up no later than Wednesday 6/13!
Due to my obligations at Basketball Camp all week, we will not have a formal meeting for Open Court Time, but please continue to get together with your teammates and work on your skills. We tried a new drill last week called AROUND THE HORN. This drill requires 6 players and is a great way to work on our control and placing of shots. Feel free to try this drill on your own as a warm up! Click here for a simple video on this drill if you weren't at open court that day.
Another great way to stay in tennis shape is to sign up for other off season opportunities that I have listed below. Gladiator tennis is a very flexible and inexpensive league and registration for this also closes Friday. Please let me know if you have questions about any of these opportunities by clicking on the email link at the very bottom of the newsletter.
Finally, I hope you all have been watching Roland Garros! Rafael Nadal won his 11th French Open by defeating Dominic Thiem and both players were amazing to watch. If you still don't understand the power of footwork and conditioning then you have never watched professional tennis. Please make a point to watch these tournaments and learn from the experts!
I also appreciate the guys staying for the 2nd-8th grade camp and help run the camp. This is a great opportunity to give back and spread the love of tennis to the future of Viking Tennis (see camp help survey above to sign up to help).
Off Season Opportunities
- Sign up for our summer tennis camp using the link below! This is a great opportunity to get some work in with their teammates, have some fun, and interact and learn from the great coaching staff at Vetta West! ALL RETURNERS should be signing up for camp!!!!
- Open Courts at FHHS. See details below! These are FREE and yet another opportunity to work with teammates.
- JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS w/Vetta: Please email Josh Patrick @jpatrick@vettasports.com if you want to play on their team. Great opportunity to get good training/practice and play good competition. I highly suggest you sign up for this.
- GLADIATOR TENNIS is extremely flexible and several HS players that we compete against in conference play in this as well. See the flyer below and register by June 13th at www.gladiatortennis.com.
- USTA Tournaments If you want to play in college tennis at a D1/D2 level, you should be playing in USTA Tournaments. You have to become a member and then sign up for play. Lots of colleges look at your USTA Rank. CLICK HERE for the site.
- Frontenac Racket Club is hosting a round-robin, non-elimination tournament called Summer Gateway Jr. Tennis Tournaments. These half-day events run every Saturday and are great for jv to mid-varsity level players. See the attachment below to get details on this great matchplay experience.
- Vetta West Clinics and Privates are always a sure fire way to hone in on your skills. I would say if you played in the Top 12 you should be doing some privates at this point. If you were below Top 12 you could start with group clinics, but to improve quickly mixing in a few privates is also a great idea. CLICK HERE for Vetta's main site. They are also hosting some new camps this summer that would be worth checking out by CLICKING HERE.
