Nixon Elementary Weekly Updates
November 16, 2020
Bobcat Pride!
I want to start my note today by saying a big thank you to all of the Nixon staff, learners, and families who helped our transition from in person to remote learning so successful.
First, a big shout out to our Nixon staff who have been remote all year. They have helped guide our in person staff into the world of remote teaching and gave several tips and tricks to a successful start to online learning. In addition, thank you for the flexibility of our remote-from-the-beginning-of-the-year learners and families. You have helped pave a way for our newly remote friends to have a successful 2 days of learning. With your 8 weeks of online school, you helped your friends avoid some of the hurdles you had to overcome, and we are so thankful for the lessons you and our remote staff have learned during this first part of the year.
Another big shout out to all of our in person (now newly remote) staff, learners, and families. Within 48 hours, you were able to move from school "as normal" to online learning. Our attendance those first two days was fantastic, I saw siblings helping siblings, grown ups helping learners, and teachers focussed on creating meaningful instruction despite the nervousness we were all feeling. Way to go everyone!
Lastly, don't forget that conferences are coming up! For our in person learners, these will be held on November 17 and 19--if you don't know your conference time, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher. In addition, ALL FAMILIES please take a moment to fill out the 1 question survey for each of your children (linked below). We are looking for information on school safety and connectedness and are eager to get your feedback. For those who have had their children remote all year, please consider the safety and connectedness your child feels within the context of the online platform. For our in person learner families, please consider the safety and connectedness your child feels within the context of in person learning (at school).
In closing, I want to tell you that I have never been more proud of my Nixon family, and I am so pleased we have come together to make this shift so successful. So thank you to all of my Bobcats for your hard work and dedication these last 8 weeks. I am eager to get everyone back under one roof again, but for now, I will continue to pop into virtual classrooms to see everyone's smiling faces.
I am so proud of you Bobcats!
