Proud to Be Your Principal
With construction beginning at the end of the K-2 wing, we will have an increase in the number of students exiting through the front entrance of the school. If you are here to pick up your child, please do not congregate in the vestibule outside the front office; rather, please wait for your child outside, far enough under the overhang to allow all students to exit and find their adult. We appreciate your help in making dismissal time safe and efficient!
I am so excited for Forward testing to begin on April 19, because I want to show off how smart our students are and how hard all the staff and students have worked this year! I'm looking forward to another year of tremendous growth and progress here at MJ1. We aim to keep a normal schedule with as few disruptions to our schedule as possible. We have spread the testing days out a bit this year, so that in any given day we are only testing for an hour or so, and then returning to normal schedule (the test is untimed, so students can take as long as they need). Test dates are April 19, 20, 25, and 26 for students in grades 3-8 in English/Language Arts and Math. Additionally, students in grade 4 (April 21 and 27) and grade 8 (April 27 and 28) will take Science and Social Studies assessments.
Please do all you can to ensure that your student/s gets a full night sleep and a great breakfast on test mornings!
Proud to be your principal,
Brent Johnson

Counseling Corner
Monitoring your tween’s activity is important for his or her well-being (and your peace of mind). As tweens becomes more independent, ask where they are going, what they will be doing and who they will be with when they leave the house. Help your tween understand that these questions aren’t intended to be an invasion of privacy. Having systems in place that help your tween report his or her activities to you can lead to greater freedom for your tween when you know that your tween is safe.
