Glennwood Elementary ~ Where Learning Takes Flight

Holly Brookins, PhD, Principal ~ Jill Tolsma, Instructional Coach Karen Hearn, School Manager

Hello Glennwood Families!

We have had a great week of teaching and learning at Glennwood despite the challenges. As always, we won't allow distractions to keep us from educating kids in a safe and nurturing environment!

We will have lost and found items outside on a clothing rack at arrival and dismissal tomorrow as well as when we return from break. You will find the rack down near the picnic tables/flagpole at the 1st-grade entrance. Many of these items are not labeled so we could not return them to their owners. Please come by to see if there is anything belonging to your child.

We hope you have a great Winter Break, and we will see you when we come back!

Warmest regards,

Dr. Holly Brookins

Keep your child at home if they are experiencing ANY symptoms. This includes fever, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, etc. Keeping everyone safe is our highest priority, and we will not be able to allow symptomatic students to remain in school. If you are contacted by Nurse Beth, please have arrangements in place to have your child picked up from school within one hour.

Covid Testing

Covid testing is currently open to students and staff Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 AM at the Wilson Center. If your student is testing to return to school from quarantine or illness, please provide a copy of the test (email or paper copy is acceptable) before they return.

Our weekly surveillance testing has been going well. In the last 3 weeks of testing more than 90 students and staff each week, we have had NO positive tests! It is not too late to sign up. If you would like to sign your child up, please register HERE.

Please review proper mask-wearing with your child and the importance of wearing it. It is imperative that students come to school with a properly fitting mask. Please make sure to pack extra masks for your child. Sometimes mask changes are necessary and we have a very limited amount of masks available.

If your student has been exposed or has tested positive for Covid 19, please complete this form and I will contact you to discuss dates of isolation and quarantine. Here is a link to the current isolation and quarantine protocol Updated Isolation/Quarantine Guidance

I hope everyone has a wonderful break!

Celebrating Black History, Our History Month at Glennwood

Black History, Our History Choice Board

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) subcommittee of Glennwood’s PTA has put together a choice board filled with activities centered on Black History, Our History, for families to engage with throughout the month of February. These activities are meant for you to explore on your own time with your family. Please use this link to access the choice board. A big thank you to our DEI committee, including Natasha Vorspel-Reuter, Leslie Sessley, Aichuan Kwong, and GL staff member Dee Anna Rittenhouse for taking the time to put together this wonderful resource!

Are you a mystery enthusiast? Does the mere thought of a riddle to be solved spark excitement and wonder? Well, step right up to our Mystery Person Challenge! As part of our Black History Month festivities, after winter break we will continue to share clues about a Black leader, artist, inventor, etc. that made a difference in our world, each day with our students. Students will have an opportunity to guess the mystery person by writing down their guess and submitting it to a box in the front office. We will draw winners in the middle and/or end of each week throughout February and into early March. We’d love your support in helping your child identify our mystery people! Click here for the daily clues.
