Newsletter Week 1 Term 2
Lauriston School 3rd May 2022
Principal's Message
Kia ora Koutou ma whanau o te kura Kotoku ko Lauriston,
Welcome back for Term 2, I hope you enjoyed some valuable down time with family over the holiday break. It was certainly nice to see the warm autumn sunshine and to get outdoors, mask free, and to breathe fresh clean air!
At the end of last Term our team held a Staff only Day to reflect on the term that had been, participate in some professional development and to look ahead in our planning for Term 2 ahead. The following is an overview of our day together via Zoom:
Reflection on Term 1
Local based curriculum Term 1 review and Term 2 planning
Digital Citizenship PLD with Neysa Koizumi
Review of Assessment and moderation practices for Term 1 and looking ahead into Term 2
Review of the Targets from the 2022 Lauriston School Strategic Plan-sharing how our staff are linking their Teacher Inquiry and Professional Growth Cycles to the key areas of focus for our students in 2022
Term 2 Calendar of events discussion and finalising
Well Being PLD- reviewing the Opuke Kahui Ako School Survey for 2022 in the Lauriston Context
As you can see Staff enjoyed a full day of reflection and planning which is essential to sustaining the excellent progress we are making as a school.
Looking ahead at Term 2 there are many exciting opportunities to come including:
The Leasing of a school shuttle for a newly created Mitcham Shuttle Run and school trips
Well being practices for kids: Classroom Yoga Sessions @ Flow in Methven
The Run NZ Cross Country challenge
Area Schools Cross Country held for Methven Primary, Our Lady of the Snows and us at Lauriston School
Cybersafety Evening for whanau with Digital Waitaha
Opuke Kahui Ako Staff Only Afternoon-Well being PLD for all 9 schools in Methven
After school Guitar and Ukulele lessons with Mrs A and Mr Taylor
Kapa Haka
Resene Mural Project with Mr B
Whanui Hui-Parent, Teacher and Student conferences
Book Fair and Matariki Celebrations
Epro8 Challenge
These are just some of the highlights that we look forward to this term, and we are especially excited to be able to welcome families on site again for some community engagement and fellowship. For more information please see our website Events page.
Finally, I would like to conclude by thanking whanau for their feedback on the School Vision Map for 2022 following the LSS meeting last term. We have had a generous response from many in our community who have all seen ways in which they can get behind the projects we are aiming to achieve over 2022 and beyond. Our BOT Chair, Wiggy and I sat down before I went into isolation in Term 1 to create a small video to update our community on where we are at currently.
You can watch this video by clicking the link here.
With the toilets arriving after school tomorrow, Term 2 is earmarked for action in this space, so please keep an eye out for ways both you and your family could connect and contribute to our fantastic country school-it is so exciting to see these plans gathering momentum and come to fruition!
We look forward to seeing you all soon

New Lauriston Mitcham Shuttle
You may have noticed our new school shuttle. At the end of last term The BOT negotiated sponsorship and leasing of a 12 seater shuttle to offer a new parent funded route covering the Mitcham territory of which some of our families are living. With the increase in cost at the pump, the new service offers families two benefits; savings in money and savings in time.
Our whanau have been quick to sign up and the Mitcham Shuttle is now at capacity. For those families who are interested in using the service, we are setting up a waiting list for future seats on a bigger 19 seater shuttle which we expect to be able to lease from the end of Term 2 or beginning of Term 3.
If you are interested to know more about the service which is currently funded by sponsorship from Methven Travel and parent donations, or would like to be added to the waiting list please contact Trudy in the office at your convenience.
Welcome
We would like to warmly welcome a new family to our Lauriston Community this term. Corey and Anna Tonks have enrolled their two sons with Archie joining the Mt Winterslow class and James joining the Mt Hutt class. We wish you a long and happy association with Lauriston School.
