Andrew Jackson, our savior!!
Hero or villain....?
Why was president Jackson a hero?
To me, president Jackson was a hero, not a villain. Everyone does something bad in their lifetime. President Jackson removed Indians from their homes and broke the treaty, yes, but he did many good things. For example, he was the hero of the War of New Orleans. Jackson became a lawyer and moved to Nashville, Tennessee. He got into politics. He changed democracy forever.
The good things.
Andrew Jackson and Henry Clay worked together because they had the same goals. Jackson's supporters used the time between elections to build a new political organization that came to be called the Democratic Party, the name it still uses today. This new party represented the poor, farmers, and workers. Not the rich upper classes.
This became known as Jacksonian Democracy.
