PRESIDENT AKANDE’S MESSAGE TO THE CHAMPLAIN COMMUNITY
The email below was sent from President Akande this morning.
Dear Champlain community,
Yesterday’s events at the U.S. Capitol have left me speechless. The chaos and turmoil are unfathomable and add weight to the stress we are already shouldering with the evolving pandemic, economic crisis, racial injustice, and more. How much more will we have to face? How much more can we take?
As a determined optimist, I cling to the hope that we will see our way through this time, and even find opportunities to learn about this tumultuous period as part of the history of our nation. For now, my primary hope is to keep the physical and emotional health and safety of our community intact. Let’s do what we can to support and care for each other, to find comfort in our connections, and to look out for those who are struggling. Let’s unite in affirming that hatred and violence are not tolerated here, and that we will sustain the positive and inclusive nature of our own community as a bulwark against the hurt, destruction, and division we see around us.
Even though many of you are not yet back on campus, I remind you that we do have resources for those of you who may be struggling and seeking support at this time. Students are encouraged to reach out to our Counseling team at (802) 865-5731 or counselingcenter@champlain.edu. Employees seeking support are encouraged to contact the College’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP), E4Health at (800) 828-6025, 24 hours a day or https://eap.ndbh.com/.
Additional support services:
Champlain On-Call Counselor: (802) 865-5745

Crisis Text Line: Text Home to 741741
Campus Public Safety: (802) 865-6465

Sincerely,
Benjamin
