Going to School in Japan by Saya Funaba-O'Brien
Have you ever visited another country? Last year my family and I lived in Japan for six months so I went to school there. In Japan my school was pretty different from Enfield Elementary school. There are four floors in the school. There are six grades in the school. It goes from first grade through sixth grade. We have 5 or 6 periods in a school day. We have 5 minutes to switch books in between subjects. The lunch is really good because it is warm. You can have rice, soup, vegetables and bread.
The recess is about 19 minutes. We sometimes have a field trip. Once we went to a museum. One time it took 23 minutes on the bus and on the way back it was 5:00 at night!
School starts at 7:00 am, if you finish your assignments you get to play outside for 26 minutes. School in Japan is different but fun.

Student Council Helps the SPCA by Emily Smith
I ask you to listen to this story to march for! Please, listen up! Animals need all of our help! Animals are probably dying at a pet store or roaming around the streets, so they need all the help they can get. The SPCA is The Society to Prevent Cruelty to Animals. They help animals who are hurt or abandoned. So end what they started by helping! The big news is the SPCA said march for the animals October 4. People marched to raise money to help the SPCA. Did you go? If not maybe you could help the animals by donating dog or cat food, old towels or blankets to the SPCA. The Student Council at Enfield Elementary is collecting items to donate to the SPCA. Look for boxes in the hallway. So after reading this do this immediately and listen and march for the animals!

Interview with Mrs. G by Makenna Monroe and Saya Funaba- O'Brien
What gave you the idea to teach?
When I was little I used to play school with my siblings and I liked being the teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher since Kindergarten.
Why do you like reading and writing with kids?
I like teaching kids reading and writing because when you can read and write it gives you a power that no one can take from you.
What would you do if you weren't a teacher?
I would be a life long college student because I love learning.
What other careers have you considered?
Teaching was my number one but I was also interested in the medical field.
What kinds of things do you like to read?
All kinds of genres. Biographies because you get to read about real life stories and mysteries because I like trying to figure out the mystery. I also like to read poetry, drama, nonfiction. I love to read picture books to my students.
What kind of writing do you like to create?
I like to write poetry because there is no right or wrong to poetry and it can be about anything.
What is one thing you want your students to carry with them?
I want them to take advantage of all the learning opportunities they can. Don't let learning opportunities pass you by.

Editorial: More Choice in the Cafeteria by Caiden Ryder
Do you think the choices on the lunch menu are boring and bland? Well I do. And here are the reasons why I want a new menu. I want something good to eat. I want something that smells good and is colorful. The only choice on the menu I like now is pizza and we only get that one or two times week. Please cafeteria people listen to my words!
Playground Safety by Heather Dann
When you are on the playground wear sneakers and play safely.
Another thing to do is do not bully and be a friend to others. Behave on the playground and maybe your grade will get the golden sneaker.
