Principal's Report

Kia Ora e te whānau,

Wow! what a crazy roller coaster we have all been on over the last month. It was so good to have everyone back on site yesterday and start to get routines up and going again.

Once again, thank you to all our parents who helped keep learning going during lockdown. This looked different in every household, but almost all our students managed some kind of learning at home. It has been really exciting hearing some of their stories.

Thank you to the parents who were able to complete the snap survey on home learning that went home yesterday. Our challenge as a school is to find the right balance for home learning, that also meets the needs in a range of different family situations. Your feedback will help us improve our procedures and delivery of home learning if we need to go back into lockdown again.

Unfortunately under Level 2 restrictions, we are unable to have our parents on site for things such as assembly. We do look forward to sharing our learning with you again once we hit Level 1.

In the meantime keep an eye on our newsletters, facebook page and SeeSaw to see what exciting things we are getting up to.

Have a great weekend,

Ngā mihi nui,

Vicki

Health Curriculum Survey

Prior to Lockdown we conducted a Survey on our Health Curriculum. This needs to be done every two years to ensure our school Health curriculum reflects the needs of our school community.

Thank you to the parents who responded. The Board of Trustees were thrilled to have 57% of our parents respond. Congratulations to Kim Strawbridge who won the draw for the box of chocolates.

The topics that parents felt were the most important were:

  • Cybersafety (97%)
  • Keeping Ourselves Safe (95%)
  • Developing a growth mindset (88%)
  • Water safety (88%)
  • Personal identity and belonging (86%)
  • Food for fuel (85%)

The school team will ensure that these topics are reflected in our planning over the next two years.

To support the Health Curriculum we are also working on:

  • a parent evening around Cyber Safety hopefully in term 4
  • a parent information session around the Health Curriculum and how it is taught at BPS in conjunction with the Whānau and School. (this will be organised once we are back in Level 1)

Thank you

Board of Trustees

Frieda and Nofo started in Room 1 this week! Welcome to BPS Frieda and Nofo!

Big picture

Everyone in Room 1 has settled back into school extremely well. We were so excited to see each other again. We were thrilled to have 2 new students start with us as well!

Room 2

Room 2 have been settling in after lockdown. We shared photos that families kindly sent in, stories about lockdown and have written about our favourite parts of being at home. On Friday we had a caterpillar day so have looked at caterpillar poetry and are making caterpillars out of egg cartons to grow seeds in.

Room 3 has been working on making fairy tale books. The children enjoyed learning about them in lock down and we have decided to carry on with them.

Room 5

Room 5 have been doing work online with Seesaw. They have learned to write on worksheets on the chrome book without having to print them out. Thank you Dhruv for teaching us all how to do it. They have been doing quite a few activities and have had a scavenger hunt competition. We are happy to be back.

Room 6

Room 12 children are happy to be back at school to learn and see their friends.

Big picture

Room 11 - Bus Stop maths in action. Students are taught by their fellow classmates in small groups.
