Perspectives on 9/11

By Ben-Jamin Earle

Who, What, When, Where, and Why???

The people of New York City and The Pentagon were attacked one day when terrorist hijacked four planes. The terrorists were a part of a group known as Al Qaeda. Needless to say, they don't really like America. they flew two planes into the twin towers, one plane into the pentagon, and the fourth plane was supposed to hit the White House but it went down somewhere in Pennsylvania. This day was then known as 9/11.

Media Perspective 1

This news report tells us about the event on 9/11/01. It says that this is a "terror attack." The article uses the word terror because they knew that it was ment to scare the people. It also says that "Hijackers rammed jetliners into each of New York's World Trade Center towers." Using the word Hijackers instead of muslims or terrorists. It uses the word hijackers because they dont want to make muslims look bad.

Media Perspective 2

This news report says "They have not struck at America, they have struck at some individual places in America." By that I think what he is trying to say is that we will be able to strike back and better. They also say, "You got to believe this is a terrorist attack." He uses the word terrorist because he is trying to show that America is dealing with dangerous people.

Showing Bias

There is a lot of bias in both of these articles. In Fox News they talk about how it was the airport's fault. They say that people make a joke about the metal detectors. Then they say that there are probably going to be some changes made to the security in airports. In the NY Times report they said that it was an "Islamic Militant." They put that at the bottom of the article though so that anyone who didn't read the full article wouldn't know any better.

Criticism 1 (Cultural)

A lot of American citizens don't like immigrants and/or Muslims. Because of 9/11 and many other attacks on the USA some people might say that a lot of Americans have xenophobia. When they found out that 9/11 was caused by a Muslim terrorist group that just made people hate Muslims even more. Especially the people who knew people who lost their lives on 9/11.

Criticism 2 (Historical)

Some people today think that there should have been more security in the airports. Even in the Fox News video they were say that everybody took the metal detectors as a joke. Other people said that if we made certain people not able to fly on a plane that they thought were suspicious. That's how the "No Fly List" came about in our country. A few people even said that Muslims should not be aloud in the USA any more.
