Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
November 11th-15th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies Class: This week we will start our new unit on "Industry and Immigration." Students will make flash cards for their 14 vocabulary terms. They should be studying these words either using their flash cards, list of words, or spellingcity.com . Their vocabulary quiz will be Friday the 22nd (for both classes). We will also spend a large portion of Science and Social Studies time this week preparing for our field trip to BizTown next week. Each student will find out their job on Tuesday and meet with their company on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We tried very hard to make sure everyone had a job they would be happy with. It is impossible to give everyone their dream job, though, so we are encouraging students to embrace the job they receive and have fun with their assigned company.
- Ms. Harris' Math and ELA: This week students will review area, perimeter, and volume. There will be a quiz over this on Wednesday. We will also review multi-digit multiplication and students will take their unit test (Multiplication and Volume) on Friday. We will continue doing timed tests on Mondays and Thursdays. Students are encouraged to study using reflex.com, multiplication.com, or flash cards. In ELA, we are going to start out next Junior Great Book story, "Learning the Game." Students will have an open-book test on this story on Thursday. We will also have a new spelling sort this week. Students will need to complete their spelling menu by next Friday (22nd), which is the day of their tests.
BizTown Field Trip is Thursday 21st
Students should bring a lunch from home unless they signed up for a cafeteria bag lunch. If you are one of our 3 chaperones, please make sure you complete the training that I sent out last week.
Operation Christmas Child Items Are Due Friday 15th
Thank you so much for sending in items to help us create holiday shoe boxes for children around the world who may not be receiving anything for Christmas. We will still be taking donations through Friday and next week, students will get a chance to pack shoe boxes in class. If you are unsure what to donate, here is a list of ideas. We are creating boxes for a boy and a girl ages 10-14. https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/what-goes-in-my-shoebox-suggestions/
