Happy New Year, Everyone!

Well, seems like it's been a long time since we met. Sorry we had to cancel the meeting on the 10th. I need to pay closer attention to the school calendar (first New Year's resolution).

At the short meeting at the ice rink, the girls made a lot of business decisions. They voted to spend their $60 of Christmas charity giving to the Angel Tree charity. The money will be used to purchase gift cards for the older children who inevitably have their angels left on the trees and therefore would get nothing for Christmas. They were aghast that this was even a possibility, so they felt good about this decision.

They also decided the budget for their cookie money for this year (i.e., they set a goal for how much money they would like to earn). They would like to earn about $1200, of which $300 would go to saving for a future out of state camping trip (they're thinking North Carolina), $300 would go towards charity (they want to help with animals, homelessness, and the environment - will try to find focus areas that hit all three) and $600 would go to pay for something fun and new for this year (let's see how they decide to top last year's zip-lining trip). The actual fun/new activity will be set at a meeting this month - sorry, but there will be a bit of homework for this one, please see below.

So how do they earn $1200 from cookies sales? So glad you asked. This means that each girl will need to sell an average of 200 boxes of cookies to reach that $1200 goal. Sounds like a lot, but we'll show you at the training how it really isn't that hard.

A little budgeting homework: Please help your daughter fill out page two (I want to try...) from the following link and bring to the next meeting.

Ice Skating Field Trip

The girls had a great time ice skating. They started by helping the Zambonie get rid of the ice by making snow balls, then it was off to making laps around the rink. At first, everyone (and I mean the entire attendance at the rink, save for 3 people) started out by forming what looked like a Congo-line holding on to the rink rail (sorry, was laughing too much to get a picture of this). The girls slowly let go and helped each other move out onto the middle of the rink (I got some pictures of this, but they were moving so fast, it was a blur). There were smiles all around. This activity was not only fun, but counted as one part of the Share the Season Holiday patch. (Part 2 was the "adopting" of the children on the Angel Tree and part 3, which was to have been done on the 10th, will be completed at our next meeting).
