WHAT'S SPLASHING?
Burlington County Special Services School District
May 2016
As explained in last month's News Letter The health triangle has three parts: physical, mental and social health.
This month we are going to focus on how swimming can benefit the physical health of a student. Aquatics is listed as a physical education component under the Individuals with Disabilities Act. A students physical health can be benefited from swimming by improving one's cardiovascular endurance. As well as increasing flexibility, muscle strength and tone.
As summer is approaching students need to remember to be safe around the water and practice what they learned throughout the year. Tips to remember are:
1. Always swim with a buddy
2. Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going in the sun and right after getting out of the water
3. Remember: "Water Wings" or "Swimmies" is not a Coast Guard approved device
