Sycamore Junior High Family Communication
November 3, 2023
This week was bananas!! We had so much fun seeing all the costumes. Every single staff member dressed up in a team costume...a few pictures below! The World Language Department, Team Waldo were our student voted winners. Students even had a costume contests at lunch. We didn't think it could get any better, THEN students showed up again by selflessly donating their candy for the Troops For Treats organization! We collected over 100lbs of candy. We know this will make such an impact on those stationed off shore. Our very own staff member Mrs. Reed (Veteran National Guard), shared on announcements how much having a piece of home (candy) meant to her while being stationed in Iraq for 14months. We just want to say thank you for being amazing, creative, and giving! Tuesday and Wednesday were great, THEN, it was even better when we had a public open house and were able to open our doors and share our space with the community. Rave reviews all around. Students were on hand to cut a ribbon (see Facebook) and Mr. Aviator bounced around with high fives. It was a great week to kick off Quarter 2!
Moving into November, we are 2 weeks away from the master locks arriving. However, if students would like to use their lockers they are certainly able to do so (and have been able to). But, we also know some students are not comfortable without a lock. Now that we're heading into very cold mornings and lunches we know that having a place to hang coats could be important. Until we get the shipment of locks, we will allow students to bring in a personal combination lock to use with their lockers. We do reserve the right to cut off the lock if we need to access the locker and the student is not available to remove it. (The school will not be responsible for replacing the personal lock) Students will be expected to have all materials they need for class, regardless if they are continuing to carry their bag or not. If your child needs help with a lock, or organizing their day, please reach out to their counselor.
Thank you all for your patience while we faced a few different barriers to getting the locks. We know it was later than anticipated. We apologize for the delay, but are hoping this accommodation will ease the any student burden. In addition to this change, we would also like to gather input from families, students, and staff on a proposed bookbag policy. Now that we are in the space, making sense of how we move throughout the building, it is time to consider what makes sense for backpack use. Below is a link to a short google form. We'd love your input!
As always, if you need anything at all. Please reach out. We'd love to connect with you. Have a great weekend!!

Report Cards ---- eBackpack
1st Quarter Report Cards
The eBackpack is easy to find under the My Classes module (see image below). Login Parent Portal and click on a student in the My Students module (see image below). Above their list of classes in the My Classes module will be a link that says “My eBackpack”. It looks like this: Once you’ve clicked on the eBackpack link, a new window will pop up and your student’s report card and other documents will be there as .pdf files. Please click on the file to view it. While you’re viewing it you will have an option to download it. Each student has their own eBackpack, so if you have more than one student you’ll need to click on each student in the My Students module to view each student’s documents.
I don’t see the “My eBackpack” link?
Do you see any classes for your student? If not, does it say “Requested” next to your students’ name? If it says “Requested” that means you have requested the addition of this student to your Parent Portal account, but it has not been approved yet. Approvals can often take a day or two. Once your request is approved you will be able to see your student’s classes and eBackpack.
Do you have any students listed at all? If not, you will need to request that they be added to your account. You can do so by clicking on “Add Student” in the “My Students” box on the left side of the page.
If you click on “My eBackpack” and you do not see a file there, or you see a file but get an error clicking on it, please submit a helpdesk ticket by sending an email to email@example.com provide your Parent Portal email address, your student(s) name(s), and describe the issue.
Parent/Guardian - Did you forget your password? If so, please go to the Parent Portal login page (bb.sycamoreschools.org) and click on “Forgot my Parent Portal Password” to reset your password.
Dressing for the colder temperatures
We talked to each of the lunches this week to thank them for a great start to the year and remind them of a couple of expectations. One part of that conversation was to let them know that we will be outside if the temperature is above 32 degrees and that they should dress warm and bring a coat if needed for recess and AM drop off. A friendly reminder that AM drop off your child will want to dress warm as our doors for students do not open until 7:55 am
If students need a location to store their coat during the school day they may bring in a lock from home for a school locker. Students will need to see Mrs. Namaky for their assigned locker location.
*Sycamore Junior High reserves the right enter lockers at any time and removes locks if necessary.
