Principal's Message
September 6, 2022
Welcome Back!
Dear Yelm High School families,
As principal of Yelm High School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year of learning in Yelm. We are excited to have students fill our classroom and hallways with energy and enthusiasm for learning. In Yelm… ~We are Learning focused ~Students Centered ~Community Connected and ~Results Oriented!
As we began planning for the 2022-23 school year we centered our attention on “belonging.” We have some great activities planned to nurture the feeling of belonging, for every student, at Yelm High School. The most crucial ingredient to building a culture of belonging is effort. It’s difficult to feel a sense of belonging if you don't choose to make the effort to engage with others. It is our goal to provide opportunities for each student to grow in their academic and social-emotional skill sets. We want every student to be prepared for this ever changing world as they enter as adults. Coming out of the pandemic, schools all across the country struggled to get back to typical attendance rates. Yelm was no exception. One of our goals this year is to improve our daily attendance. When schools, communities and advocates take action to ensure children are attending school, we have a higher success rate of being able to support students in their efforts.
We have recruited and retained amazing and dedicated teachers who have chosen to serve our students and families at Yelm High school. Our teachers are using best practices to use data, experiences, and observations to determine current skills levels and want to set goals for optimal growth and achievement. We believe that all students should graduate with the ability to act on their High School and Beyond Plan. We look forward to our continued partnership with parents and community members to support all students. After 24 years in this business, I have found this to be true: great communities = great schools!
We hope you will find our website helpful and informative. All information we email families will be posted to our site. You can also see the dates for all activities have been put in the calendar feature of our website and our sports schedules can be found under the Athletic tab. Additionally, we have several twitter feeds, FB pages and instagram accounts that we will use to celebrate all of the wonderful things going on throughout the school year.
