Dudes on Duty - D2
We at Bluff Park would love to have more males in the building, and are hoping to do this through a program called D2 (Dudes on Duty). Things such as something as simple as greeting our students with a "good morning," eating breakfast with students, reading books to them, assisting with homework, etc. Twice a month men would meet with 4th and 5th grade boys on a "How To" session. Possible sessions might include: how to tie a tie, change a bicycle tire, fold the laundry, use a hammer and a screwdriver, etc.
If you are interested, please click here to submit your information to receive a sign up sheet. We are looking for Dudes that are available to volunteer Monday - Friday from 7:00 - 7:40 AM.

Erin's Law
Attention All Parents: To comply with Erin’s Law, HCS school counselors and administrators have created a plan to provide basic child sexual abuse prevention lessons for students. We have prepared a brief video that outlines plans for elementary, middle and high school levels. You will find more detailed information on HCS’s plan to implement Erin’s Law, including the option for your child to opt out of these lessons if you so choose. This information is also available in Spanish. Disclaimer: If you need alternate accommodations in accessing the video content, please contact Marley Stephens at mstephens@hoover.k12.al.us.
Spanish with Senora Gaines
I totally understand if this is too late.
¡Hola mi famillia de Bluff Park! We had a fun short week. My 3rd, 4th and 5th grade amigos reviewed the months of the year in Spanish with the Macarena motions. We also participated in a reading comprehension activity. The students read a description and had to find a picture that matched. This reviewed clothing. My Kindergarten amigos reviewed the días de la semana (days of the week) and had an introduction to weather (el tiempo). We played a game of ‘hace frío/hace calor’ (cold/hot) where one student would hide a llama and another student would find it. We had to help by saying frío or calor. My 1st and 2nd grade amigos reviewed the months of the year with the video as well. They also participated in the story El Mitón by Jan Brett. We said the animal names in Spanish. Gracias for all you do, Profesora Melany Gaines Link to months of year chant/song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP6-MNMzoNw Link to weather song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orSIEorzUHU&authuser=0

Outdoor Classroom Cleanup
Outdoor Classroom Cleanup: The Spring Outdoor Classroom Cleanup will take place Saturday, February 29th from 8 am to 12 pm. We will tidy up the garden and around the whole school. We are currently putting together a plan for a fun construction project too! The Outdoor Cleanup is a great way to serve the school when you are not having to do all that work that keeps you away during the week and it is also a great way to meet new people and families! You can also sign up here to provide breakfast items so we can snack as we work: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090f4ca9ab28a7f85-spring
Upcoming PTO Dates

From Ms. Kellman
This month all grade levels have been talking about positive and negative self talk. We have read the book, " Don't Feed the Worry Monster." This book talks about the more we worry the bigger our bug gets. Once the worry bug gets too big we can't control it and our emotions. We connected this to the zones and how our negative self talk or our worries, can get us deep into the red or blue zone. One student connected the zones to a Color Wheel, I have been using that for all classes. It has been great to define what part of the red, blue, yellow, or green zone we are in. We had great discussions in all grade levels on how we are in control of our thinking and emotions. We will continue next month on filling our tool box with calm down strategies and turning our negative self talk around.
