The Pirate Way
Hello Pirates!
Can you believe that we are halfway through our first quarter? This week students in their advisory class went through and checked their grades. Please take a moment and ask your student how they are doing. If they need support we have the tutoring schedule listed in this newsletter. Please also double check their grades and attendance in AERIES. If you need support on how to check grades in AERIES there are directions below. If that doesn't work give us a call and we will support you!
Pirates you are a part of something big! You belong and will always belong in the Oceanside High School Pirate Community. What an amazing feeling to realize you belong to something bigger than the individual Pirate, but rather part of a 100 year plus Pirate Ship Community!
Regardless of where you may go and no matter what you end up accomplishing the one thing that you have to count on is that you will ALWAYS be a PIRATE!
Stay safe! Know you are loved and belong to the Pirate community - this is the Pirate Way!

OHS PIRATE SPORTS UPDATE
Football pounds Wolverines
Adrian Luna ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns and Georgie Nua had 77 yards and two scores as Oceanside trounced Westivew, 35-13, in the Valley League opener Friday night.
The Pirates (2-2 overall) didn't waste any time as Luna took a handoff from quarterback Andrew Miller and raced down the right sideline for a 65-yard touchdown run. The sophomore followed that up on OHS' second possession taking a screen pass from Miller and was escorted by his offensive linemen along the left sideline for a 70-yard score and a quick 14-0 lead.
After a rather dull quarter and half, Nua picked up the slack scoring from 2-yards out, punishing Wolverine defense until he reached the end zone. Two series later, Nua broke free and scored from 41 yards.
Backup running back Christopher David added the final touchdown on a 4-yard run on the game's last play.
Defensively, the Pirates held Westview to zero yards rushing in the second half. Geordan Beamon, Isaac Hernandez, and EJ Juarez were all in the Westview backfield consistently, especially in the second half.
Girls Volleyball hangs tough against Carlsbad
In the past, Carlsbad has tossed away Oceanside like an old gum wrapper. However, Tuesday at Lancer Arena, the Pirates stuck to the collective shoes of the Lancers like bubble gum before falling in three games, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23.
OHS, which is 6-3 overall this season, frustrated Carlsbad, a traditional county power, with its stellar defense and timely blocking. In the end of all three sets, the Pirates couldn't muster enough offense to finish.
Setter Elena Gonzalez-Hughes led Oceanside with 23 assists and 12 digs. Libero Kaylee Noa, playing in her first match after transferring from Oceanside East, was the team leader with 13 digs. Opposite Faye Naotala had 10 kills to pace the offensive attack.
Girls Golf opens league play with win
Different day, same result
The Oceanside girls golf time opened Avocado League play Tuesday against San Dieguito Academy at the friendly Oceanside Municipal Golf Course.
And like in its non-league schedule, the Pirates (8-0 overall, 1-0 in league) were straight and true en route to a 226-254 victory
Lia Nance shot a 40 to earn match medalist again and she was backed by Kassidy Stevens and Danyele Bertino, who both shot 45.
The same two squads battle again on Thursday at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course.
Girls Tennis notches second victory
After a week of injury and illness, the Oceanside girls tennis team regained its mojo downing host Escondido, 11-7, Tuesday afternoon.
The singles trio carried the day for the Pirates. Laura and Mia Ramirez won all six sets by the identical scores of 6-0. No. 3 Brianna Robinson came through with three victories, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles, where OHS has struggled this season, Claire Thompson and Alondra Mendoza showed dramatic improvement winning two of three sets (6-4, 6-1, 2-6)

OHS PTSO
For those new to OHS, PTSO includes Parents, Teachers and Students to support the school community. Some of our goals are to promote parent interaction, support the faculty and staff and promote student achievement. Each year is a bit different so we welcome your ideas on ways we can support the school. The donations we receive and the funds we raise go toward staff appreciation events, teacher and club grants, student events, and more. We work closely with our principal Mrs.Garrahy, the administrators and counseling team to be responsive to current needs. All members have a vote in how our funds are used and we have a few openings for leadership positions if you want to give some time.
If you would like to join us or renew your membership for the year, please fill out the form here: OHS PTSO Form 2023-24. If you are interested in volunteering or serving on the board, please indicate that on the form.
Whether you participate in meetings or not, you can support our efforts with a tax-deductible donation. Please go here: PTSO Donation Page (Paypal or CC) or use our new venmo @osideptso. And please join us for our restaurant nights throughout the year.
We typically meet monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm. Stay connected with us by joining our Facebook group @Oceanside High School PTSO Parents for Pirates or following us on Instagram @piratesptso.
