HES Headlines

A Publication for HES Staff

Week of February 8th

Happy Sunday!

Friendly reminder that report cards were due on Friday. Please let me know ASAP if you haven't completed them and did not already reach out. Also, please email me the names of students you would like for me to review. Let's make sure they're completed by today so we can all enjoy the Super Bowl :)

Don't forget that Secret Valentine begins this week.

Please remember that all SGO modifications must take place by 2/15. See below for details.

We are anticipating a visit from the fire marshal this month. It's very important that every staff member review and abide by the guidelines below. Thanks in advance for your support!

Finally, I continue to be impressed with the enrichment cluster offerings conceived by our staff! Click here to sign up if you haven't already done so. Friendly reminder: the expectation is that every staff member lead a class or support someone who is leading.

Wishing you a wonderful week.

An Update from Katie: With Math I Can

Amazon has launched a campaign to change the way students think about their frustrations with math and foster the development of growth mindset in children and adults. They are sharing free resources about growth mindset on their website. Check it out and watch the video!

Budget Update

Our accounts are now frozen. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to order additional materials/supplies this year from our building budget. In addition, we no longer have the ability to support PD opportunities which haven't already been submitted for approval. Please see me if you have an extraordinary situation which requires assistance.

Important: Fire Marshal Visit (2.23.2016)

Please make sure your classrooms, offices and work spaces meet the safety requirements. These include:

+ minimum 24 inches from ceiling

+ doors closed on day of visitation (no doors propped open)

+ storage closets must be accessible and organized

+ coffeemakers, microwaves, refrigerators and other large appliances should not be in your classroom

+ extension cords should not be present

Please ask Carlos or me if you have any questions.

Update: New Students

We have a handful of new children who will be/may be registering. We try to give teachers a heads up when we know a registration is about to take place. However, we don't always know when a child has an IEP which may delay notification. Sometimes, we find out from the registrar and then only have 48 hours before a child will begin.

Here is an update:

+ kindergartner (2/17 start)

+ 4th grader (2/17 start in 4D)

+ 5th grader (returning on 2/17)

+ possible 5th grader (mid-March)

Reminder: Lesson Plans

Please remember to post your lesson plans each week.

Reminder: SGOs

You should be reviewing your SGOs and analyzing mid-year data to determine if changes are necessary. Modifications can take place until 2/15.

Administrators may now unlock SGO's. To make modifications, email the administrator who is responsible for reviewing your SGO. Once the change is made, reach back out to the same administrator.

If I am assigned to review your SGO: please email me even if you don't require a change. I will then advance your SGO in OnCourse from "initial implementation" to "final implementation."

Let me know if you have any questions!

HVEF Grant Proposals: Spring 2016
