THE BIG 3
Here are the "Big 3" for the week ahead!
- JHS will take part in "Say Something" week next week through the Sandy Hook Promise. This is a way to celebrate the importance of a trusted adult and upstanders in our community. The themes for the days are in the photo below.
- We hope that you will join us at the Prom Fashion Show on Saturday, March 11 at JHS. See the information below for more details.
- We had an outstanding rally today with our student-staff dodgeball tournament that supported St. Baldrick's. We hope to see you all on Sunday, 3/12 at 12:00 at the North Canton Racquet Center for this great event.

SMART SOCIAL
Dear Jackson High School Parents,
Many of our students have devices with access to the Internet and social media. While advances in technology have many great benefits, there also is the potential for harm.
In addition to cyberbullying, there are concerns about safety, mental health, and wellness. Quite often another social media app or social media challenge becomes popular. In some cases, these apps allow strangers to contact children, or make it easy to anonymously bully other children. Some of these social media challenges pose great dangers to students’ or bystanders’ physical safety. In response to these risks, we have been looking for a resource that can help parents in our community learn the ins and outs of social media and online dangers, and cope with the challenges of parenting in the digital age.
We are excited to announce the Jackson Local School District has partnered with SmartSocial.com for its on-demand resources for parents and students. SmartSocial covers a wide range of digital and social media topics that we feel are relevant to our students. We have purchased parent memberships for every parent in our district to give you access to these resources and help you learn how to navigate the negative (and positive) parts of social media with your students.
You can sign up here: https://smartsocial.com/jacksonlocalschooldistrict
Some of the resources include:
Smartphone and Social Media Agreement Templates (For students, parents, & educators)
Navigating TikTok (A course for students, parents, & educators)
Navigating Instagram (A course for students, parents, & educators)
Navigating YouTube (A course for students, parents, & educators)
Navigating Snapchat (A course for students, parents, & educators)
Navigating Fortnite, Overwatch, Call of Duty & Other Violent Video Games (A course for students & parents)
Navigating Roblox, Minecraft, & Other Non-Violent Video Games (A course for students & parents)
Navigating College Readiness on Social Media Networks (A course for students, parents, & educators)
+And more!
As we all know, the digital footprint and the social media presence that young people create can have a lasting impact. Parental guidance, as well as guidance from trusted adults at school, are desperately needed. For older students, SmartSocial.com can help begin the process of preparing for college and career by offering parents tools to support their students, including timely advice to help students put their best foot forward with social media and a digital portfolio.
Jackson Local parents can now access the SmartSocial library of resources for FREE.
Sincerely,
Mr. Matt Ziders

Student Surveys
Dear Parents and Guardians,
You may remember that earlier this school year, students completed a brief academic climate survey. In the coming weeks, students in grade 6-12 at Jackson Memorial Middle School and Jackson High School will receive the exact same survey again via email. The students will have time to complete this survey in Social Studies and/or Language Arts classes. The information we receive will help the district support our students in their support of academic excellence. The survey will take less than 5 minutes to complete and questions are related to students’ feelings on the academics at their school building. A copy of the survey will be available at the office at both schools if you would like to review it. The district does not own the copyright to the survey and is not permitted to send it electronically. Anyone wishing to opt-out of the academic pulse survey can do so by contacting their building offices.
ID BADGES
Please remember that if you forget your student ID badge, you will need to report to the TLC immediately to get a temporary badge for the day. Students who forget their badge on multiple occasions will be given consequences.
Thank you for helping us in our efforts to keep our building safe and secure by wearing your ID badge at all times. Thank you!
IF ELIGIBLE PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO FILL OUT AND TURN IN THE FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH FORM
JACKSON LOCAL SCHOOLS BACKPACK PROGRAM
We are pleased to be able to offer The Backpack Food Program, in partnership with RiverTree Jackson. This is a service for families in the Jackson Local School district with students in K-12. The goal of this program is to send home a variety of easy, ready-to-eat meals and snacks for your child to have over the weekend. There is absolutely no cost to our families to join this program. The bags will be delivered to your child’s school weekly, and sent home with students on the last day of the week that students are in school, usually Fridays.
Our first distribution will take place on Thursday, September 8. You may choose to participate at any time, but registration is needed by the Thursday of the week before, so for the first week, the deadline would be on Thursday, September 1.
This program is intended for families whose children are eligible for free/reduced meals. However, we understand some families may not be eligible for the free/reduced meal program, but are still in need of food. If you would like to opt in, please fill out the google form linked below (one for each student). Please know, all information you share with us is kept in the strictest confidence.
To apply to be part of the Backpack Food Program, all you need to do is fill out the quick application form by clicking the link below: (one for each student). Please know, all information you share with us is kept in the strictest confidence.
