Bad Emperors of Rome
By Samantha Williams
- Born Gaius Julius Caesar, not the same guy as the famous Julius Caesar
- Reigned AD 37-41
- during the first six months of his reign, he was a noble and moderate ruler. After that, though he was cruel, sadistic, and extravagant, he was described as an insane tyrant. He initiated the construction of two aqueducts in Rome, and during his reign, the empire annexed the Kingdom of Mauritania as a province.
- In 39 and 40, he led military campaigns to Rhine and the English channel where instead of actually fighting, he put on theatrical displays, he commanded his troops to "plunder the sea", and they collected shells in their helmets.
- Died 41 AD
- Reigned from 14 AD to 37 AD
