NBES in the news...
Excellence is an expectation
This week at NBES
This week although most of our sixth graders were away there were still adventures to be had. Mr. Varney escorted the students on field trips around town and even are planning to do some grave rubbings on Friday. In fifth grade the students worked on the strategy stop and jot to identify physical changes in science and applied the strategy to reading as well. In grade 4 the students the students learned about antagonists and protagonist, search for themes in their stories, and created some amazing broom mates. In third grade our students learned to check their subtraction answers by using the checking by adding strategy. They also learned about the stop and jot strategy. In second grade our students worked on reading and writing stories. I was able to read with a few students and the improvement was amazing. They are also learning to stop and jot ideas as the read through the book. They are highlighting OMG and heart ideas. In tthe first grade students met with their high school buddies and worked on identifying first, next, then, later and last. In kindergarten I was able to watch them work on utilizing Fundations to help them learn to read and write. Students played go fish only phonics style, wrote letters and sounds using sand trays, discovered Halloween words, learned about 10 frames and read some amazing books.
Event Information
Halloween
Students in grade K-3 will be allowed to dress up in their costumes. Students should not cover or color their face, being any extras to school outside of the clothing, and bring a giant smile. Students in classrooms will be allowed to bring in food and I have found numerous safe foods for students to bring in. Please attach a note with all the ingredients used if you decide to bake delicious goodies. We want all our students to be safe and even 1 ingredient could be detrimental. Please contact the teacher if you have any questions.
