The present continuous form
We use the present continuous for actions and happenings. For example: they are painting or it is snowing. But there are some verbs that are not action verbs like know and like. You cannot say "I am knowing" or "she is liking";you can only say "I know", "she likes".
The following verbs in the present continuous
The following verbs are not normally used in continuous tenses like love,hate,believe,remember,seem,want…
I want a big bike. (not "I'm wanting)
What do you think (=believe) will happen? (not "what are you thinking)
In the present continuous it will be:What are you thinking about? (For example)
Examples (Affirmative)
- I'm writing a book.
- You're listening to music.
- He is playing football.
Examples (Negative)
- We aren't watching TV.
- They aren't doing homework.
- She isn't singing now.
Examples (Interrogative)
- How are you feeling now?
- Who is speaking in spanish?
- What are they doing?
