Mental Health Awareness

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

1 in 5 people (or over 1,200 of our students) will be affected by a mental health condition in their lifetime. The more we talk about mental health, like we do physical health, the more people will end the silence about mental health issues. Take action today to help others as we promote awareness, provide support, educate and advocate for equal care.

We will be doing a variety of activities to bring awareness to mental health during the week of May 16-20th. As a culmination to the week, I want to encourage everyone in the district to WEAR GREEN next Friday, May 20th. Show your support for all those who are affected by mental health concerns and their families. Any green will do.

There are also t-shirts for $10 that you can order from NAMI Fox Valley that advocate for mental health awareness. The link is below.

Dr. Altekruse

(Please note: The activities will be done district-wide. Our early childhood and 4K teachers will be discussing this subject with students according to what is appropriate for young children. Therefore, you will not see as many activities in the EC & 4K classrooms as you may for older siblings. Thanks, Mrs. Nelson)

4K Program--Please return dismissal form by Friday!

Please return, if you have not already, the dismissal form regarding post-concert plans for your 4K child for our May 31st AM and PM concert at Riverside Park.

Please remember, students should report to school that day as normal and we will be taking students to the park. Please understand, for the safety of all children, you WILL NOT be able to bring your child to the concert, but are welcome to sign him/her out and take them home after the concert.

Riverside Park in Neenah is beautiful as it is located on the river, but that leads to our staff's biggest concerns for safety. We will bring children to the park on the buses and students will remain with their teachers, AT ALL TIMES, until the conclusion of the concert. Please do not call your child away from his/her teacher to visit with family or take individual pictures. You will have time after the concert to take family pictures. (Please note, however, the teachers will not be available for pictures as they will be supervising other students at this time.)

The dismissal form gives your child's teacher information on who will be dismissed at the park to an adult, and who will be returning on the bus to school. It is IMPERATIVE that you communicate, face-to-face, with your child's teacher and sign your child out before taking him/her from the supervision of our staff.

Thank you for your assistance and understanding in this very important matter!

Extra Washington Yearbooks

We have some extra Washington yearbooks for sale if you missed the previous ordering deadline. Yearbooks are $13.50 and will be sent home with students before the end of the school year.

If you are interested, please send a note with your child's name and teacher's name, along with a check (payable to Washington PTO), in a sealed envelope.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Jay at jklavetter@neenah.k12.wi.us or call the Washington office to leave a message.

Absence Policy

If your child will be absent from school (Washington & ACI students), you will need to call the Washington ELC OFFICE at 751-6990 to inform us of this absence. If you call and need to leave a message, please leave the following information:

  • Child's name
  • Child's teacher
  • Reason for absence

We will record this information in our attendance system, and let your child's teacher know.

If you do not call the office, you should expect a call from us.

Please let us know if you have any specific questions!

Franklin Avenue Construction

Beginning on Monday, April 4th, we will have an alternate parking plan due to construction on Franklin Avenue. Please use the link below to access the map regarding available parking for drop-off and pick-up for Washington School.

**Please note, there will be limited space in the Washington School parking lot for NJSD parking, as city employees will be utilizing the entire back row. However, if the spaces are OPEN, you are welcome to park there for the 5-10 minutes it takes to drop-off and/or pick-up your child.

The buses will have a loading zone on the south side of Columbian Street, beginning at Walnut St., which will need to be kept clear of vehicle parking. There will be a parent parking/loading zone on Columbian Street closer to Oak Street.

Arrival and dismissal procedures will remain the same as we will utilize the same doors as we have all year.

For the safety of your children, please remain clear of the construction area on Franklin Avenue if there are construction workers and machinery in the area.

Thank you for your patience and assistance as we work through this situation together!
