Thank you from your FMS EXPLO Team!

News from the Art Room
6th Grade is Working on a six panel watercolor project getting familiar with water color techniques. We will do a follow up next week with a collaborative watercolor project.
7th Grade is continuing work on their community city construction. We have paused this project for a few days, and will work on drawing our house, and doing a color rendering as a 2 dimensional study.
8th Graders are continuing on the Altered Book project.
News will be pretty repetitive for 8th Grade the rest of the year, as they are just getting started in the process. I will be checking progress weekly and adding points to their overall grade in the process. With each project check I will be asking them questions, and asking why they chose to do certain elements in their book and evaluating their progress as well as direction. If you want to see ideas on Altered Books and what they are all about, the best overall place with many variations is pintrest. https://www.pinterest.com/explore/altered-books/
They have many ideas and great-featured books to browse through.
As always if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me cchapman@fulton58.org

6th graders practiced their keyboarding skills this week. Their goal the past few weeks has been 16 wpm with 90% accuracy. This will go up to 19 wpm for the next 2 weeks. They may practice their keyboarding anytime at typingtraining.com. Students can even use their Chromebooks to practice anywhere they have an Internet connection. They all have their login information. If you have any issues logging on at home, please email me. You can monitor your child's progress at home and school by going to the reports menu after they have logged into Typing Training. Many computer students email to ask login information or for me to assign specific assignments on typingtraining.com. I welcome these emails and respond as soon as possible.
6th graders also successfully completed a mini-unit on using Microsoft Word. We will continue our work using Microsoft Word next week.
The 2017-18 Tech Interns have been participating in an intense training sessions the learning many skills that will be needed to start the 2017-18 school year. So far they have been amazing!

HORNET SINGERS:
Hornet Singers...though they be but few, they be mighty!
We are enjoying all of our pieces for our concert that will be Monday, May 8th. The students are so pumped about the new styles they are learning and I have greatly enjoyed seeing this excitement grow.
Don't Stop Believin' has become a current focus with the students as we have solo auditions Friday, April 28th. You may have heard them practicing around the house!
We are continuing to work on our music literacy as we are sight-reading daily! Ask your student all about it...it's a game...it's a puzzle...it's FUN! :)
The choir handbook and schedule is online for your perusal anytime. (www.fulton58.org)

CAREERS:
We have had 2 awesome field trip opportunities for 8th grade Careers, and 1 awesome field trip and a special guest speaker for 7th grade in the last week. Both classes visited Dollar General Distribution Center recently. 8th grade also visited the Playhouse on Court Street. This field trips, though brief, started some excellent discussions about career fields, types of work within a single company, and the hiring process! Thank you to Niki Stinespring, and Shawna Bruns for allowing our students to visit your establishments!
A hearty thank you as well to Sandi Bernard for visiting our 7th grade class on Thursday to teach us about advertising! Our students always enjoy hearing from guests! Check out the pictures below!
CALLING VOLUNTEERS FOR CAREERS CLASS! If you or someone you know would be interested in visiting our class to talk about your job or career field, please let me know. We are also looking for opportunities to visit local businesses. If you know of an awesome place, please share your ideas!
