Facts About Coelacanths
Coelacanths were thought to be extinct for 70 million years
It was rediscovered in 1938 by Miss Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer
She brought it to a scientist whose name was Professor J.L.B. Smith
After Professor J.L.B. Smith examined the Coelacanth and determined it was in fact a Coelacanth, he spent the next 14 years looking for another
Professor J.L.B. Smith was informed that their were fishermen in the Comoros Islands who had caught a Coelacanth
He was made aware that they had caught fish like that before threw them back because they had no value
After the whole commotion over the first discovered Coelacanth, many had been found even though they are still classified as rare.
