  • Coelacanths were thought to be extinct for 70 million years

  • It was rediscovered in 1938 by Miss Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer

  • She brought it to a scientist whose name was Professor J.L.B. Smith

  • After Professor J.L.B. Smith examined the Coelacanth and determined it was in fact a Coelacanth, he spent the next 14 years looking for another

  • Professor J.L.B. Smith was informed that their were fishermen in the Comoros Islands who had caught a Coelacanth

  • He was made aware that they had caught fish like that before threw them back because they had no value

  • After the whole commotion over the first discovered Coelacanth, many had been found even though they are still classified as rare.
