Who is Daisy Bates?
Daisy Lee Bates was an American civil rights activist, publisher, journalist, and lecturer who played a leading role in the Little Rock Integration Crisis of 1957. She was born on November 11, 1914 in Huttig, Arkansas. She died on November 4, 1999 in Little Rock at the age of 84.
Awards and Books
She won many American Book Awards from books such as The long shadow of little rock; A Memoir, the Native Tribes of Western Australia
Her Career
She married LC Bates and became the President of the NAACP. In 1957 she helped nine African Americans to become the first to attend the all white central high school in Little Rock.
