Oct 13 - From the Superintendent
October 15, 2022
October 13, 2022
Hello, USD 231 Patrons and Employees.
This past weekend my son and I had the opportunity to participate in the Gardner Edgerton Schools Foundation (GESF) first annual Cornhole Tournament! Sam and I were competitive, but not enough to beat the most talented teams in attendance. It was a beautiful morning spent amongst students, family, friends, co-workers, and community members. It served as another example of how united our community can be. It was also an extra special event, serving as the first significant fundraiser led by the GESF and Mr. Tim Brady, the Executive Director. To learn more about how the GESF work to serve our students and staff, click HERE.
National Principals Month
Each October, USD 231 recognizes National Principals Month, acknowledging principals' essential role in making our schools great. Our principals are among our schools' hardest working yet often least recognized individuals. Our building administrators set the academic tone for our schools, and their vision, dedication, and determination provide the sustained force for achieving student success.
Additional information about National Principals Month and a forum for recognizing your child's principal(s) can be found at principalsmonth.org.
National Custodial Worker Recognition Day
October 2 marked National Custodial Worker Recognition Day. This day serves as an annual celebration during which we express our thanks to the custodial team who work tirelessly to clean and maintain our schools and facilities. School districts are one of the institutions that most heavily rely upon custodial workers. Our students and staff are fortunate to be served by these men and women! Click HERE to learn more about this important day and ideas for celebrating these individuals (it's not too late!!).
National Coaches Day
Were you aware that October 6 marked "National Coaches Day"? Our student-athletes are fortunate to have coaches that give instruction and advice in highly specialized fields and provide guidance and encouragement. These individuals coach students in various stages of their lives, seeking to progress to higher levels of competition. Our students benefit from the dedication and expertise of quality coaches.
In our district, these experts are found not only on athletic fields and courts but also leading our forensic teams, bands, and a vast array of clubs. We are all very fortunate our employees work with many of our students in and outside of the classroom.
As you can tell, October is a busy month of recognition; however, no amount of "Thank Yous" can convey our sincere appreciation for all these individuals do to make our student's experiences memorable and meaningful.
Sincerely,
Brian

Family Resources
Student well-being is essential to learning. Family/school partnership is critical in recognizing and addressing students academic, behavioral, and social needs. To the right/below is valuable information and resources for USD 231 families to access on various topics.
In addition, the online database, http://supportgroupsinkansas.org/, contains more than 2,500 local and national support group resources. Groups and resources can be searched by topic and/or by county.
