Thanks for reading the first ever (well, that I'm aware of) SFA Math Newsletter!

I hope you all had an awesome Week 3! As an Instructional Coach, my job is to help you to continue to grow into the best professional educator possible. So as we begin our fourth week of instruction, I wanted to share some awesome stuff I have been seeing in our SFA math classrooms. So if you know that you have a really exciting and engaging activity planned for your students, please let me know so I can come learn from you!

Enjoy!
Lauren

Announcements

Mrs. Nordenstrom in the science lab is in need of empty water bottles for the science lab during weeks 5 and 6! We would like to gather as many as possible by the end of this week, but will definitely take them into week 5 since lab rotations last 2 weeks. You can bring them by my office, the science lab, or I would be happy to pick them up from you!

In the picture above, you can see that Mr. Jarero's 3rd graders are already doing an amazing job working in small groups as they are participating in a gallery walk around the classroom. I was very impressed with how quickly his students transitioned between stations and how engaged EVERY SINGLE student was in his math lesson. Great Job, Mr. Jarero!
Mobley 3rd Place Value
Watch this video to see Mrs. Mobley's 3rd graders doing a place value chant with a "comma kick" last week! It was really cool to see her kids want to practice place value. Keep up the good work, Mrs. Mobley!

Mrs. Harville's 5th Grade classes wrote letters to the math department chairs at Harvard and Yale, and recently received the letter shown above back from Harvard! Her class was very excited to hear back so quickly. Great job, Mrs. Harville, for getting your kids excited for their mathematical futures!

Guided Math Management Tip

Big image
Mrs. Guidry has created this AWESOME interval timer that is pre-set for her 4th graders' Guided Math station rotation times through http://intervaltimer.com to make managing station rotations easier for her and her students.

According to Ms. Guidry:

It is easy to create your own and you can change the colors to be whatever you like for guided math groups. My goal is that my classes will learn my expectations and the group rotations will become automatic. With this timer though I don't have to get up to reset my timer and it's visible to everyone.

You're Here, You Take Up Space, You Matter: It's just science, man!

I leave you with this video: "Kid President's Pep Talk to Teachers". Thank you for always giving your students 100%, especially as we all work through the changes in Dayton ISD this year! It's not always easy, but it's always worth it!
