Dear Parents/Guardians,

Congratulations! Today is the last day for students and I have heard many of you feel like it’s your last day too. Great job--you not only supported the emergency remote instruction but you survived crash courses in Zoom, Google Classroom, math class, etc. I commend all of your hard work as we navigated these unchartered waters together, and I know our teachers appreciate your patience and understanding. I hope you have the opportunity to exchange a few quick words as you drive through the school loops next week to pick up your child(ren)’s belongings or drop off devices, instruments, etc. Details on day/time can be found in each Principal’s newsletter.

Thank you for completing last week’s important parent survey to assist the Biddeford and Dayton School Departments as we prepare for several different reopening options in the fall. The response rate was nearly 50% and we will share results as we cull through the data. Our next parent survey will be sent out next Friday, June 12th. It will focus on emergency remote instruction over the last several months and how we can improve as we develop this mode of instruction in Plan C of our reopening plan.

This week was full of special virtual awards and celebrations. I hope you had an opportunity to watch the premieres as a family but if you missed them or would like to share them with others, they are all posted on our district website here.

Please join us this evening, June 5th at 6:30 PM to celebrate both Biddeford High School and Thornton Academy Seniors! Go outside and make as much noise as possible for 30 seconds - bang on pots and pans, clap, honk car horns, etc. to recognize all seniors. Let’s hear it across the river and show our seniors how proud we are of their accomplishments. Shortly following this recognition, the Senior Reception and Candlelight Ceremony will be held virtually at 7pm on the website and social media platforms. We also invite you to watch the BHS Class of 2020 graduation on June 17th at 9 PM as it is broadcast simultaneously on the website, social media platforms, and Biddeford public access as it streams live for graduates at the drive-in.

Biddeford has produced videos for each of our schools in which new students and parents may tour the buildings and hear highlights from the Principals. If you know of fellow parents who have a student registering for Pre-K or Kindergarten, have students moving into Biddeford or attending the Center of Technology, please share the video links with them (below and on each school’s Facebook Page). Dayton Consolidated School will post a video tour closer to the start of school in the fall.

Food distribution will continue through the summer months in Biddeford and through June 30th in Dayton. In addition, YouthFull Maine will continue to provide food. We will post any changes on the Food Distribution webpage and on our social media platforms.

Throughout the coming months, I will continue to post updates on our website and social media platforms as I have relevant information to share with parents. Please direct any questions to or 207-391-6868.

Stay Well,

Jeremy Ray
