Library News Letter
27th September 2019
Christina Matula - Our first author in the library this year!
On Friday 20th September the Year 1 & 2 students had a very special treat in the library. In preparation for the lantern festival re-scheduled for the same evening, the students were treated to a special reading of the book 'Shadow in the moon' by the the books author, Christina Matula. Chirstina was able to share the folklore and traditions of the mid-autumn festival. The children were enchanted with the tale Hou Yi and Chang E including where the traditions of mooncakes come from. The process of a thought, to an idea to creating a book was also explained in each session which inspired children to create their own books and stories about things that they are inspired by too. It was a delightful start to the Mid Autumn Festival festivities at Peak School, and a wonderful time was had by all. For the Library it was also a great start to our author visits for this school year.
Student Librarians 2019-2020
Congratulations to all our new Student Librarians. They have inspired the confidence of their peers and their teachers to become the library representatives of their respective classes. We met for the first time last week and again this week. A few have been in the role before and know what they are doing, most impressive though is the enthusiasm and commitment that all the librarians have already shown and how well versed they are with the responsibilities they have in the library. I am confident that this year is going to see the development of the role even further because of the attitude and approach of this team, and watch out for them in a surprise we are busy getting ready for all our friends and community here at Peak School.
Rugby World Cup in the Library
For those who are following the Rugby World Cup in Japan, we have a on display all our rugby books for those wanting to fully immerse themselves in the game. We have fiction books, and non fiction books to suit every reader, wheter you're looking to enhance your skills or get lost in a story we have it all. That being said the rugby books are proving difficult to keep on the shelves at the moment so you need to be fast - I had to take the picture below quickly as there were no books left after the first morning we set it up! Do not despair we have ordered more new books and will keep the children's passion for reading and the game alive.
A serene start to the day.
This term the library has started opening up for those children at Peak School who like to start their day with the calm and serenity of the Library. It's proven so popular we've had to limit our numbers to 40 children each day. The children have mastered the token system for registering their entry well and most days we are full by about 8.20am! It really is a lovey tranquil start to the day and one we hope to continue long term.
