Dr. Woods' Message regarding Instructional Models for 2021-2022
I have some important information to share with you about what the 2021-2022 school year will look like for our students. At the Board Meeting earlier this week, Trustees approved two learning models for next year.
It has been wonderful to see additional students returning to our campuses over the past few weeks and engaging in person rather than just through devices. We know that in-person learning is the best environment for the vast majority of our students, not just academically but also socially and emotionally.
Pending what the legislature finally decides, we expect the clear majority of our students to be in-person learners. However, the learning models do include virtual learning for only a small group of students who meet specific eligibility criteria.
Next week, you’ll receive an email from us with more details and a link to our student information system. After entering your child’s personal information, you will be able to confirm that you have completed the data verification process. For most of you, this will be all the action necessary.
For those seeking a medical waiver or who have extenuating circumstances, the application will provide notice whether your child is eligible for virtual learning. Please note that the remote/virtual model will be very different next year compared to this year. If your child is eligible for virtual learning, families will be asked to make a commitment to the requirements. Please take some time to review the information.
If you haven’t yet completed the data verification process, you still have the opportunity to do so next week.
Our goal is for our students to have the best possible learning environment. This means students learning in-person and teachers teaching in one learning mode.
Next year, we will be Northside Reunited. After all this time apart, I hope it will look and feel more like it did pre-COVID without losing sight of the protocols we have put in place to keep our students and staff safe.
I will continue to provide you updates in the coming months. In the meantime, if you have additional questions, please visit our new NISD Reunited website.
Thank you for your time and support of NISD schools.

Student Device Return
As the school year draws to a close, here is what you can expect to do with your students Northside issued devices:
- Device will need to be returned to each of your student’s home campus.
- Chargers will also need to be returned with devices. It’s a great time to start locating those!
- All devices will be collected – iPads, Chromebooks, laptops, and MiFis.
More information will be provided when collection times and dates will start.
“What if my child is attending summer school?” There are a few summer programs that may require students to keep devices. If your child is in one of those programs, that information will be communicated to you, and those select students will turn in their device when the summer program ends.
