Our Watch D.O.G.S. Matter at VAES!

Check out the Smilebox link below to see 1st semester in action. It will warm your heart!
Thank you to Dorothy Loftice and our PTA for our Donuts with Dads event this week. We had a fantastic turnout and filled more days on the 2nd semester calendar when our Watch D.O.G.S. can come work with our students. It's not too late to get involved with Watch D.O.G.S., so please let us know if you want to serve.

There are some individual pics of Dads with Students on the PTA Facebook page.

Principal's Pulse

We are so excited to begin this second semester at VAES! We have had a good week getting back into the swing of things. Thank you for helping your children get acclimated to the school schedule once again.

I wanted to remind you how important you are in the success of your children at school. Most of all, please continue to read with your child each night. Encourage your children to use the reading strategies their teachers have taught them. Ask questions about the stories and articles that they are reading. These discussions help to build comprehension skills and confidence in reading. We thank you for supporting us in your child's education as we know it makes all the difference in your child's achievement level.

Please see the save the date information listed below. You will want to clear your calendar to bring your child to school the evening of Tuesday, January 26th. It's going to be a fantastic event!

Also, please do not miss the information on the Endowed Scholarship being set up in memory of the Small children further below in the newsletter.

Counselor's Corner

For the month of January, our character lessons will focus on fairness. Students will discuss the difference between “fair” and “equal”. Weekly classroom community meetings will include discussions about forgiveness, openness, sharing, and adaptability. Ask your children to tell you what they’ve learned!

Memorial Scholarship

An endowed scholarship is being set up through the Van Alstyne Education Foundation to honor Reagan and Grant Small. All donations are tax free and will help us to continue to honor the memory of these two precious children for years to come. Checks can be made payable to the VAEF with Reagan and Grant's name in the memo line. You may send your monetary donation to:

Van Alstyne Education Foundation
P.O. Box 1620
Van Alstyne, TX 75495

With an endowed scholarship once the requirements are met, the foundation will be able to give a scholarship each year without having to continuously raise the money yearly. Karen and her family will be able to present this scholarship and continue to keep the memory of her children alive for years to come. If you could help with any amount at all, it will be GREATLY appreciated.
