Important Dismissal Information Regarding Picking Up Your Children
Please read the following information about our rules for picking up your child at LMES. These rules are for the safety of your children and help to ensure that our school runs smoothly. Thank you.
Afternoon Pick-up: If your child is being picked up at the end of the day, these procedures must be followed
- It is essential that you send a note to the school if you are going to pick-up your child, if your child is going home with someone other than a parent, or if your child is going to a special activity such as Brownies or CCD. The note should be addressed to the teacher and should be dated, include the child’s first and last name and signed by a parent/guardian.
- LMES is a large school and the office is often very busy. Last-minute calls at the end of the day have caused confusion and miscommunication, resulting in a child or parent being upset, and we do not want that to happen. It is essential that parents send a note in with your child in the morning whenever he or she is to be picked up.
- Students being picked up at dismissal time will report directly to the cafetorium at 3:40 pm and will meet parents there. The person on duty will release your child to you.
- The period from 3:20 pm until the end of the school day is probably the busiest time of day both in the classroom and in the office. Therefore, any unscheduled pickups, without a prior note, that occur at/after 3:30 pm will follow regular pick procedures and students will be dismissed from the cafetorium.
- Parents picking up children early must go to the office before 3:30 pm to sign their child out.
- All parents who are picking up a child prior to 3:30 must come to the office first. Under no circumstances should you walk directly to the classroom to get your child. Teachers have been instructed not to dismiss students from the classroom. The office will call for your child.
- Please do not wait outside the school for your child at dismissal time. The aides and teachers have been instructed not to release a child to any adult who may be waiting at the buses.
How To Be A Wingman
At LMES, the PTO sponsors several afterschool programs, such as the Wingman Running Group. Here, Mr. Vesneski, a 5th-grade teacher at LMES, is greeting the runners. Each session, they stretch, run together, and talk about character traits. It is all working towards how they can be a wingman for good!
How Do You Write Your Numbers?
It is amazing to think about the different levels of learning that occur in different classrooms at LMES. In this picture, kindergarten students are learning how to write their numbers (always starting at the top!) through the use of a catchy rhyme and lots of practice with a wipe-off board.
Vote For The Next Kid Governor
5th-grade students learned about Connecticut's Kid Governor (http://ct.kidgovernor.org/). This award-winning statewide civics program was created by the Connecticut Democracy Center and introduces students to the basics of designing and running on a platform as well as how the electoral system works. In this picture, students are learning about last year's program and the winner, Ella Briggs. Click on the link above for more information!
