Haslet Elementary News-to-Know

Principal's Message
Happy Spring! Hopefully you were able to have some quality family time, along with some rest & relaxation over Spring Break!
We had a tremendous turnout at Open House earlier in the month. We loved having so many guests come see the great things that are happening at Haslet Elementary. We have a school full of the most dedicated and committed teachers and staff that you could ever wish for, classrooms full of hardworking and inspired students, and a community of supportive parents. Haslet is home!
On Thursday, March 22, Dr. Warren, NISD Superintendent of Schools, conducted a Facebook Live conversation (click if you missed it) regarding school safety. I encourage you to take the time to listen to what he had to say. On Monday, April 2nd at 6pm, I will host a school safety meeting at Haslet Elementary. Please consider this an invitation to join me that evening. If you have a specific question about school safety, simply email me at mwebber@nisdtx.org, and I will do my best to add it to our agenda for that evening. Above all, please know that we will continue to make safety our number one priority at Haslet Elementary.
Thank you for your tremendous support as we partner together to provide our students with the very best education!
Sincerely,
Melissa Webber

Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart
We're just two weeks away from our Jump Rope/Hoops For Heart event. We will be jumping and celebrating on April 4th and 5th during your child’s regular P.E. class period. Our students are learning how to be heart healthy by eating more fruits and veggies, drinking water, cutting down on salt, exercising every day and not smoking. Please help us keep others healthy and save lives by asking for donations.
Go to www.heart.org/jump to join our school and take a healthy pledge. Then, share your heart-healthy pledge by sending 10 emails or Ecards to your family and friends and ask them to pass it on. Check donations will be due by April 13th.
Thank you!
School Report Card
Dear Parent,
Attached you will find a copy of the State of Texas 2016-17 School Report Card for Haslet Elementary School. This is a report required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. It is to be sent to the parent or guardian of every child enrolled in a Texas public school. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures.
The information contained in the School Report Card is required by state law and is briefly described in the enclosed “2016-17 School Report Card Definitions.” The report for our school may or may not have all the information described, because the information presented depends on whether the school is an elementary, middle, or high school.
State law requires that the school report card display information about the state, the district, and the school. Where possible, the information must be reported by race/ethnicity and socio-economic status of the students and must include at least two years of results.
The School Report Cards can be found online at:
http://www.nisdtx.org/departments/research__assessment_and_accountability/school_report_cards/
A more complete report about Haslet Elementary School, the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), is available by contacting my office or can be accessed online at:
http://www.nisdtx.org/departments/research__assessment_and_accountability/t_a_p_r/
Please contact me if you have any questions concerning this report card. Thank you for your continued support of Haslet Elementary School.
Sincerely,
Melissa Webber

Camp Invention
Camp Invention is a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the future of innovation and STEM. Program activities are led by experienced, local educators and inspired by the world-changing inventors that have been inducted into the hall of fame. Children are presented with fun, hands on activities that encourage creative problem solving, team work, entrepreneurship and curiosity.
NISD is so excited to host not one, but two Camp Invention sessions this summer. Each camp will have a different curriculum, so a student could attend both and have two different experiences. Camp Invention is open to all elementary-aged students.
