Jen P's Advising Group
Middle College news for you!
Update #4 10.23.15
Hello, students and families!
Just a quick update -- Chris is still working on getting progress report updates from college professors. He then emails the feedback to both students and parents. Please call or email him if you have any questions. Brandinc@smccd.edu/650-306-3120. He works Monday-Thursday mornings.
Scroll down for the Parent College Information night presentation.
We have Monday, Nov. 9 off -- NOT Veteran's Day. Students WILL have college and MC classes on Wednesday, Nov. 11 (Veteran's Day).
Spring Scheduling
By early next week, I should have met with all of my advising group individually. I'm emailing the proposed schedule to students and parents. I will register students for spring classes on 11/6. We can still change the schedule after that date, but some classes will fill earlier than others and it may be difficult to get into a particular class later in the registration cycle.
A gentle reminder that the passing grade in college is C or better; if a student earns a D or F in a college class, we will expect the student to retake the class in spring. This will impact the classes we've chosen and will probably require us to reschedule in January once grades post.
Class Updates
English 4: seniors are about halfway through The Handmaid's Tale. We'll finish it next week and then use multiple critical perspectives to interpret the text, including feminist, psychoanalytical, and formalist critical approaches.
US History: juniors are wrapping up the Civil War and getting ready to explore industrialization.
Economics: seniors are currently studying market structures and business organizations; next week they will move on to macroeconomics.
Junior CCR: students continue to work their way through They Say, I Say, a handbook for writing argument essays, and have been exploring ethical dilemmas and learning strategies for sound decision-making.
Senior CCR: students continue to work on their personal statements, as well as the UC and CSU applications; many are also working on the Common Application and supplemental essays.
