Cell Phones Rules at Lincoln
Lincoln’s rules related to cell phones have been adjusted for this year to be more reflective of the District 57 Student/Parent Handbook in addition to being aligned with District 57 Board policy. For students who bring their phone to school, the expectation for all students is that their phone is powered off and in their locker during the school day. We are subscribing to the theme of “disengage so you can engage” across all of our classrooms, which is why cell phones are no longer permitted in the classroom. For our seventh and eighth-grade students, this will be a change in practice and staff will be continually reminding the students about this change throughout the opening days of school to assist with their adjustment to this updated plan.
The intent behind this renewed practice is to free the learning environment from distractions so that all of our students can learn and be fully present in their classes. Should students need to call home, they would be allowed to do so using one of the school phones. All of the staff are committed to enforcing this rule so that students are receiving a consistent message from all of their teachers.
As parents, you can assist us by reviewing this information with your child. We are appreciative of your help and support with this.
From the District 57 Student/Parent Handbook:
Students will not be called to the (classroom) telephone except in the case of an emergency. Cell phones should be powered off and kept in the student's backpack (elementary) or locker (middle school) during the school day. Students may be asked to put digital communication devices such as Smartwatches in their backpack or locker if it becomes a distraction to the learning environment. If any electronic devices are brought to school, students assume full responsibility if these are lost, stolen, or damaged.

Lincoln Health Office Information
Incoming 6th-grade students are required to have a recent physical with complete immunization records dated after August 18, 2021, and a dental exam dated after November 15, 2021. These forms are due by the first day of school. Physicals are good for 13 months for sports.
If your child has medications that are kept in the health office, please drop off the completed forms and medications to the health office as soon as possible. It is vital that our nurse has your child’s necessary medications cataloged and ready before the first day of school.

Cross Country
Lincoln Cross Country coaches hope your summer is going great and look forward to the start of another exciting school year! August means that Cross Country is just around the corner! We have included all the information below to get you off the right foot (running)!
Coaches: Steve Shaffer (sshaffer@d57.org) and Kelly Bailey (kbailey@d57.org).
Our philosophy is to have “wow” moments by having fun, being part of a team, and challenging yourself through the sport of Cross Country.
Physical: A current physical (physicals are good for 13 months) must be on file with the nurse to join cross country. Please direct all questions and concerns to Susan Smith (ssmith@d57.org), Lincoln’s school nurse. Click here for the Physical Form. Please turn in your current physical no later than August 10 to start the season on August 22. Nurse Smith is out the week of August 15 and will not be checking physicals.
The Cross Country Calendar on the website gives an idea of the season, but changes are inevitable. Practices are from 3pm until 4pm. Currently, 10 full-team meets (through the Conference Meet) and 2 State Series (Sectional and State) are limited to the varsity boys and girls groups.
Many of the team members juggle Cross Country with other activities/sports. Our goal is to work with team members so they can enjoy all their interests. Communication is the key to making this happen.
Feel free to contact us with questions and concerns. We look forward to another exciting season!
