Principal's Message

Hello Families,

We are officially in the third and final trimester of the 22-23 school year, and we are excited to seeing how much learning has taken place with our students. We are entering our final push with end of the year projects, CAASPP state testing, and projects. It is so important students are here everyday and on time! Prior to the pandemic, Vista Academy had one of the highest attendance rates in Vista Unified coming close to 97%. Since the pandemic, we have shown significant increases in attendance, but we aren't quite there. We currently have an attendance rate of 92%. As parents, we need your help. Between now and May 1 we are setting a schoolwide goal of improving our attendance rate to 96%. We feel this goal is completely attainable. According to the research, attending school every day possible:

· Helps students get back on track and recover lost momentum

· Promotes student learning

· Helps students feel better about school and themselves

· Improves mental health through socialization, developing friendships, building empathy and forming lasting relationships with peers

· Allows for a personalized learning experience that keep students from falling behind

The top three classes in the school each week will receive a huge shoutout and popscicles each week through the end of the school year! We can meet or even exceed our 96% goal!

Our Fun Run is gaining momentum with so many of our students registering and sharing their personal websites with family and friends. Don't forget I will be hosting a special Lunch with the Principal for our top 10 students with the most Fun Run website shares. I also will be having our top 5 Fun Run fundraisers join me as Principal for the Day. Yes, they will get their own badge, radio, lunch of their choice, and a special day leading and supervising the campus with me!

Spring conferences are next week so please be on the lookout for an invitation from your child's teacher. Our students and teachers are excited to share our students' progress and goals.

Spirit Wear is back on sale. Please see below and order by March 24th!

Please make sure to read below for upcoming dates and events!

Sincerely,

Benjie Walker

VUSD Community Schools

Vista Academy will join Cohort 2 as a Community School in the 23-24 school year. We are excited to officially begin our journey as a Community School. Community Schools are designed to support learning and prioritize the well-being of children and adults. The foundation for improving academic opportunities and outcomes can only be realized through centering relationships, valuing the expertise of students and families as partners, and creating racially just, relationship-centered school climates and cultures.

Please check out this brief 3 minute video explaining Community Schools in both English and Spanish.

We need your input! Please fill out this brief survey to help us identify needs for additional resources.
