Pomona December Newsletter
December! How did that happen?
December is here already! We have a lot going on over the next three weeks. It is absolutely critical for your amazing kids to be here for so many reasons. I will give you just a few.
CANDY GRAMS!!! See tomorrow's Thursday folder.
The 13th at 6 PM is the third-grade music program.
Mr. Pfaffendorf and Ms. Cropp are getting taped to a wall on the 16th! See below for more details.
We have multiple field trips occurring at all different grades. You don't want to miss those!
We are going to have an assembly on one of the last days before break.
We have PBL panels in 5th grade, 4th grade, and 2nd grade!
Don't forget Spirit Week! (December 19th-21st) Look for more information in Thursday folders.
19th: Color Day and Hat day
20th: Dress your best day! (Field trips are on this day and 5th grade PBL)
21st: Comfy & Cozy Day (Pajamas are acceptable)
And we have mid-year assessments happening for every grade.
As you can see it is a full three weeks. You can help us out by having your kids start the day out right with a good breakfast and positive words as they shuffle out the door.
Candy Grams
Art night was a HUGE success!
The great taping of Mr. P and Ms. Cropp
La Quinta Art Contest
Noah was the winner of the La Quinta Art contest. Look for his artwork in the newspaper and other locations.
FOOD DRIVE ends Dec 6th: Second Grade PBL related
This is a big deal Pomona. 2nd graders are working hard at making a difference in our community and each one of us can help them. Just donating one item helps.
We don't have a number on how much food we have just yet, but it is looking pretty good. This could be a tight race for the winning school. Please help us win this by donating a can of protein.
Last year we found ourselves with a $1000 check in hand. That money went straight back to your kid's learning environments! Let's see if we can do that again.
We are doing the Healthy version of the competition. The points scale is below.
The S.T.E.A.M. challenge is: LAPS not APPS
December Challenge. LAPS not APPS challenge.
Ok, everyone. This challenge is for everyone. Parents, grandparents, caregivers, teachers, plumbers, cowboys, cowgirls, everyone! You get the picture.
Without going into a bunch of science-based articles and research I think we can all agree that reading is a REAL big deal.
Challenge: Read and have fun. It's that simple.
Take some time during the day and just read. Grab a book, a newspaper, or anything but a digital device, and just read. Adults, model this behavior to the kids.
If you don't have a book, create one! Your kids have an amazing ability to create some great stories. Have the kids tell you their story, you write it down and they can read it back to you.
Not only will you be helping them learn in a really fun way, but you are also bonding. If you pull your kid over and start reading with them the odds of them telling you they don't want to read is slim. Don't ask them if they want to read, just do it. Break the bond between the digital world and strengthen your personal bonds.

Our PTO is amazing. Just about everything you see at Pomona, from Aquos Boards to our Art teacher comes from major support of PTO. I cannot thank you and PTO enough for supporting the school and the kids. PTO does have a Facebook page and a website (see links right below).
