Introduction
Mission Statment
Founded in 1993, the mission of Make-A-Wish International is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish International serves children outside the United States in nearly 50 countries through its 39 affiliates. With the help of generous donors and over 32,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 350,000 wishes worldwide since inception.
What is the issue/Cause that your charity supports?
The issue that the make-a-wish international deals with is children who get affected by deadly diseases like Cancer or Leukemia. According to Make-A-Wish International, “founded in 1980 the mission of the Make-A-Wish International is to grant the wishes of children with life threatening diseases”(Our Story). The make-a-wish international does grant wishes but it also throws fundraisers and has many sponsorships.Anyone can be affected by cancer and other life threatening diseases and it will be a miracle if some one can overcome it. Even though, kids don’t have as big of a risk to get these life threatening diseases, it is still a big problem around the world.
Cancer and all life threatening diseases are a widespread problem. It affects kids all around the world and Make a Wish International cheers them up by granting their number one wish. Cancer and Leukemia are not an easy disease to get rid of and it takes a lot of treatment and therapy to get rid of or make the disease weaker. Make A Wish International have been trying to change kids lives whenever they have the chance. Make A Wish International serves their purpose by granting the wish for terminally ill children and making their dreams come to real life. Life threatening diseases are very serious and Make-A-Wish international wants to allow children with these diseases forget that they have them.
How Did the organization begin & grow into what it is now?
According to Make A Wish international’s website, “In 1980 by the fulfillment of a wish of a 7-year-old boy with leukemia named Chris Greicius, who wished to be a policeman.” (Make A Wish story). Make a wish international was found in Phoenix, Arizona to help grant wishes for kids with life threatening diseases. According to Make A Wish International in 1993 make a wish international started to become more popular and was officially informed to serve 5 other countries outside the U.S. (Make A Wish Story). Make a Wish have been granting kids wishes from the age 3 to 18 for the past 23 years and have been growing even more every year.According to Make A Wish International In 23 years they grant wishes in nearly over 50 countries all around the world.
In 23 years Make a Wish international has been getting more popular every year. Make A Wish have granted over 15,200 wishes per year and once every 21 minutes someone around the world gets their dreams come true. Make a Wish has been helped by over 33,000 people and has nearly 40 associates around the world.According to Charity Navigator, From 2011 to 2014 Make a Wishes yearly expenses have went up by 2 million dollars (Revenue/Expenses trend). In 2013 every U.S. dollar given to make a Wish foundation, about 86% of that money goes to help kids grant their wishes.What does your chosen charity do for the community?

According to the charity’s website one of the events that Make-A-Wish International has is an, “Inaugural ‘Arabian Nights’”(Events). This event is an International Wish Gala, which helps raise funds to help make wishes come true for seriously ill children.

According to the charity’s website, on Charity Navigator, Make A Wish International has gotten 4 out of 4 stars for 11 straight years(Press Releases). This shows that they’re not afraid to show where there money goes. They have gotten a lot of donors to donate money for their organization, because according to the charity’s website, “about 90 percent of their money comes from donors. Only 10 percent comes from sponsors such as Kia, United, and Build-A-Bear”(Financials). Furthermore, Make- A- Wish uses more than 80 percent of their money to help their program. Make- A- Wish also ensures that every wish that a child makes to the foundation, will be granted(Our Story).

There are many ways to help Make A Wish international raise money so they can complete kids wishes. The main way that the community gives back to Make A Wish international is usually donating a few dollars or every month they pay a certain amount of money. People also donate to airlines like Delta so if a child’s wish was to go somewhere there flight would already be paid. Many People make websites online. They can share with friends and family so they can donate and Make A Wish can get more money for Wishes. Many People around the world volunteer for a certain amount of time and help with fundraisers and Wishes.
