September 2022 Newsletter
Message from the Principal, Mr. Marker
Dear Naples Park Families,
Welcome to the 2022/2023 school year at Naples Park Elementary School. I want to personally thank the community for a few things as your new Principal. First, thank you for having our Shark Students so ready for school. The students are back, working hard, happy, and modeling great leadership. Second, kudos to our students, staff, and the community on achieving an “A” rating as a school on the Florida Standardized Assessments last year. This is truly and amazing accomplishment and all involved should be very proud of it. Thirdly, thank you for the amazingly warm welcome you have given me as your new Principal. I have told many, and now I will put it in writing – I won the lottery getting transferred to a school so rich in tradition, talent, and kindness.
Speaking of rich traditions, Naples Park Elementary is celebrating its 50th year Birthday this year! As such, we are embracing a theme of “A” Magical Time Machine. Yes, the “A” is emphasized, as you probably guessed, NPE is an A school. 😊 We plan to have a lot of fun as we look back at Naples Park Elementary through the decades and celebrate both that and the school’s incredible performance.
As you all already know, and now I know it too, it is good to be at Naples Park Elementary School.
Sincerely,
Christopher Marker
Principal of the Naples Park Sharks
Assistant Principal, Mrs. Summers

Hello NPE Shark Families,
The 2022-2023 school year is already off to a FINtastic start. Our NPE Sharks will be setting Wildly Important Goals (W.I.G’s) and tracking the number of lessons they pass on I-Ready. Students will receive a certificate and a Magic Ticket to our weekly prize drawings!
Here are some suggestions for also celebrating this progress with your children at home. Thank you for your support in keeping the momentum going:
· You can reward their hard work and focus as you would reward other milestones they have accomplished.
· Congratulate your child on their progress and acknowledge that you are proud of their hard work.
· Ask them to tell you something interesting they have learned from an I-Ready lesson.
· Set up a system at home to recognize lessons passed. For example, every time they pass a lesson at home, you can ask them to show you their I-Ready Student Dashboard, and then they are allowed to put a marble in a jar.
· Ask them to log in to I-Ready at home and explain their progress to you. Below is a guide of what you can ask based on what you will see on the I-Ready dashboard.

FUN FACT:
The Irish used hollowed-out, candlelit turnips carved with a demon’s face to frighten away spirits. The name “Jack-O’-Lantern” comes from an Irish folktale about a man named Stingy Jack who invited the Devil to have a drink with him but he refused to pay. Jack tricked the Devil making him a deal that the Devil could never claim his soul. Jack is now stuck roaming the Earth as an evil spirit with his lantern shining the way. The Irish would carve scary faces into turnips or potatoes and place them near doors or windows on Halloween to frighten away Stingy Jack and evil spirits. When Irish immigrants in the 1840s found few turnips in the United States, they used the more plentiful pumpkins instead.
