## Unit Description

This unit is about surface area, perimeter, area and volume. We did a bumper car activity that helped us figure out the perimeter and the area of a bumper car floor plan. This helped us figure out how much material we need to fill the space. Then we did a storm shelter activity. We had to find the perimeter and the area of each floor plan. For surface area, we had to find the dimensions and the area of 2D shapes in order to find the surface area of 3D shapes. Finally, we filled an empty box with 2 centimeter blocks in order to find the volume of the shape.

## What is perimeter?

Perimeter is the rim or outside of a 2D shape. Perimeter is measured in units.

## What is area?

Area is the inside of a 2D shape. Area is measured in square units.

Area of Rectangle = L*W

Area of Triangle = base x height / 2

Area of Parallelogram = base x height

## What is suface area?

Suface area the total area of the surface of a 3D shape. Surface area measured in square units.

Surface Area of Pryamid = (LxW) + 4(BxH/2)

Surface Area of Rectangular Prism = 2(LxW) + 2(LxW) + 2(LxW)

## What is volume?

The volume is the space inside a 3D shape. Volume is measured in cubic units.

Volume of Rectangular Prism = LxWxH
