SUPER BOWL SPIRIT WEEK - FEBRUARY 1-5

SNOW DAY (Alternative Methods of Instruction)
Feedback and Reflections from our first snow day of 2021
We understand that we will get both sides of the coin on wishes for these days, but our goal is to provide enough for those families who wish to maximize learning when students are home due to inclement weather, and provide grace to those families who are overwhelmed with the responsibility of supporting their young learners on these days.
Here are some keys points that were shared from parents (summarized and consolidated):
- Hard to work from home and support early learners
- Glad that there were non-tech options
- Some confusion about attendance markings and the amount of work that needs to be completed to "count as attending"
- Juggling multiple kids and their obligations is tricky.
- Glad that the work load was flexible and kids had a chance to enjoy the traditions of a snow day.
- Kids didn't get to enjoy the snow day because they were doing work
- Discrepancies in the amount of work kids had from grade to grade
- Parents couldn't access the assignments /materials
- Didn't have Chromebooks sent home
- Glad that they didn't have to use the chromebook
- Couldn't connect to Google Classroom
- Internet issues
- Not all technology logins were working
- Hard for working parents
- Parents didn't like the google authentication because the letters were too hard to read
- Liked it better than the AMI before Thanksgiving (cutting back on the google meets was a plus)
- Some kids forgot their take home folder so they didn't have logins
- Google Meet kept freezing
- Liked that it was laid back and could complete assignments at their convenience
About 25% of our classrooms reported that most of the kids participated in the afternoon meeting.
Suggested changes
Important Things to consider on short term closures- Snow days
Any assignments completed can either be turned in electronically or brought to school on the next open day. As long as students either participate in the meeting, do some of the activities or both, they will be considered present for school that day.
The elementary approach is a bit different from secondary, due to the structure of school, the hybrid model that secondary is currently participating in, and the fact that all secondary students bring their Chromebooks home every night.
The decision to participate in AMI days, as allowed by the state, created a couple of wins for our students and families, one of which is the requested desire to not add days on to the end of the year, and another is to provide learning in the middle of the year, rather than lose a learning day in the middle and add on to the end.
If you have additional questions or suggestions for improvement, don't hesitate to contact Dr. McClure at mcclurej@platteco.k12.mo.us

Character Warms the Heart Week - February 8-12
February 8-12 is our Pirates ROCK "Character Warms the Heart" week, when we warm up with our good character with fun spirit week activities and collect items for our Treasure Chest resource center to help PCR-3 families in need. We're collecting shampoo & conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and cereal this year. Participate in our spirit days and send in any donations to our schools! Reminder: Friday, February 12 there is no school for our District Inservice Day, a great day to send a nice note to a friend or staff member.
