PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Welcome to the first official newsletter for the term. With the constant challenge of COVID, it was a welcome sight to have the majority of children and parents back at school. Given the third wave of COVID currently affecting our state, a reminder that mask-wearing is strongly encouraged for all children.
Term 3 has started with a bang, with our celebrations of NAIDOC Week and a return to school routines for our children. With a number of school, community and religious events this term, it is sure to be very busy.

NAIDOC WEEK
Thank you to all our staff and children for the wonderful celebration of this year's NAIDOC Week - Get Up!, Stand Up! Show Up! The closing concert on Friday afternoon was a wonderful reflection of the work our children have been doing in understanding and celebrating our Aboriginal culture. Thanks to Mrs Emma Coad, Ms Amanda Hamilton and Mr Mark Cunniffe for coordinating all the activities for the week and immersing our children in Noongar language and culture. If you missed the concert and would like to view a performance, the link is here: https://youtu.be/iV_MiTzHE5Y
CATHOLIC PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL
A number of our children will be performing in the 2022 Catholic Performing Arts Festival throughout this term. This began last Friday with two of our instrumental piano players, Taicia Ashley (6W) and Sophia Guelfi (6W) receiving excellent feedback for their performances. Today, Sofia Hampson Villalobos (5B), Kayla Rasheed (5B) and Tiarne Connell (5W) will present their solo items at Aquinas College. Good luck girls!
Next week, our Christian Dance girls will be performing on Tuesday 2nd August at Mercy College and the solo guitarists, Lucy Zaehner (5B) and Dayna Neill (6B) will be performing on Monday 8th August. We wish all the performers the best and have no doubt they will shine in displaying the Assisi Difference!
ROBOCUP JUNIOR WA 2022
Good luck to our competitors in this year's Robocup Junior WA. Three of our Year 6 children in the Higher Order Thinking Skills group with Mrs Fenlon, have once again been entered into the team event for Robocup Junior. Taicia Ashley, Julia Pedrini and Sophia Guelfi have been very busy during lunchtimes programming and coding their Lego EV3 Robot to perform in the On Stage Performance Category - their team name is 'Aladdin Powers'. The event is being held today at Curtin University. Good luck to the girls and thank you to Mrs Fenlon, Mr Clarke and their parents for supporting this experience.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
It's been a big couple of weeks for our English Premier League football fans with Man U, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leeds United in Australia for warm-up games. I know a number of our children and families in the community attended games in Melbourne and Perth. Jack Heydon (6B) had the opportunity to be on the ground with Quinns Football Club! Ronan O'Reilly, also in 6B, made the trek to Melbourne and as a dedicated fan, managed to get a few photos with some of the Man U players. I have no doubt both boys will have fond memories for life! Who knows, we may be trying to sneak a photo with Jack or Ronan one day when they become international stars!

SEASONS FOR GROWTH
Seasons for Growth is an innovative, evidence-based change, loss and grief education program that draws on the metaphor of the seasons to understand the experience of change. It builds the knowledge and skills necessary to strengthen social and emotional wellbeing by:
- Exploring the impact of change and loss
- Learning about effective ways to respond and adapt
Participants learn that they are not alone in their experience of change, loss and grief, and are able to build their communication, decision making and problem solving skills within the context of a safe and supportive peer group learning environment. All Seasons for Growth programs are grounded in sound, person-centred educational principles. Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 children who completed the program in Term 2 and celebrated with a Seasons for Growth party on Tuesday.
