Dear Parents/Guardians

What a great start to Friday! Michelle Blythman and her gang were in awesome form. Thank you so much – you had us in stitches!

Tomorrow the Siena Car Wash fundraiser takes place in the bottom car park. Last year was a huge success and this year looks like being no different. Thanks very much to Narelle Hyndes who led the charge and organised this. It is an important event in the life of Holy Rosary.

Monday’s Swimming Trials went beautifully! Thanks very much to Rob Flexman whose organisation, preparation and planning made for an excellent event. Many parents also were involved, and there is no way it would have run without you all. We so appreciate your support. Thank you very much. Thanks also to all our staff involved and to our children who absolutely gave of their best.

Edudance concerts, parent – teacher interviews, and our end of term mass conclude this term. We hope to see you around.

Have a great weekend

NEW REGULATIONS - Immunisation History Statement

Due to new regulations under the Public Health Act 2016 (WA), parents/guardians of a child are now required to give the immunisation status of the child as recorded on the child’s current immunisation certificate to the school. The only acceptable documentation for this purpose is the child’s Immunisation History Statement from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

Please see below how to access an AIR Immunisation History Statement :

A child’s current AIR Immunisation History Statement can be accessed at any time by the parent/guardian through:

* MyGov, by logging in to their Medicare online account

* Medicare Express Plus App, by logging in to the Medicare account

* Visiting a Medicare or Centrelink office, or

* Calling the AIR General Enquiries Line on 1800 653 809 for the Statement to be posted

Families who do not hold a Medicare card are advised to call the AIR on 1800 653 809 to request an Immunisation History Statement. Parents are automatically sent an AIR Immunisation History Statement when their child turns 18 months of age and again at five years of age or after their child has completed the four year old vaccination schedule, whichever comes first.

When your child completes their 4 year old vaccination, it is a requirement that you provide the School Office with an updated AIR Statement.

3 Year Old and 4 Year Old Kindergarten Enrolments 2020

We are currently accepting Kindergarten enrolments for 2020. Please contact Laurie Evans, laurie.evans@cewa.edu.au if you have not enrolled your child or if you are unsure. Enrolment at 3 Year Old Kindergarten does not guarantee enrolment in the 4 Year Old programme. Let others know if they are interested!

We will be interviewing new families to the school in Term 2, 2019. For families already within the school with older children from 4 Year Old Kindergarten to Year 6, no interview will be required. If you have not enrolled your child or are unsure whether an application has been completed, please contact Laurie Evans, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday on 9203 4500 or email admin@hrs.wa.edu.au.

Our Year 6 Christian Service Council Group is helping out at the Church – giving the pews a much-needed polish and shine! Parishioners have noticed the difference and are very grateful to our children for their efforts.

Serving on Holy Rosary’s four Council Groups during the course of the year is an important Year 6 leadership and service experience. Students work in groups and have the opportunity to serve on each Council.

Bakers Delight Woodlands supports Holy Rosary with its annual Dough Raiser – they give back 10% of all our purchases for the year. All you have to do is say: “That’s for Holy Rosary”!

A big thank you to all our parents who said the magic words with each purchase last year - we have just received close to $1,000 for our school.

The fundraiser is still going so don’t forget to mention Holy Rosary when you visit Bakers Delight Woodlands again!

Woolworths Earn & Learn is back and it is now easier than ever to earn valuable equipment for Holy Rosary School.

It's simple to participate. From Wednesday 1st May and Tuesday 25th June 2019 or while stocks last, when you shop at Woolworths you can collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers from the checkout operator, via team members at the self service checkout or through an online order and place them on a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet. There will be one Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco, and gift cards). Once completed, simply place the Sticker Sheet in the Collection Box at school and also Woolworths in Innaloo and Floreat.

We can then redeem the Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers for valuable education equipment for Holy Rosary School.

Science News

This week the children received an amazing science show thanks to dad and Newman College Physics teacher, John Spriggins. John delighted the children with dry ice and liquid nitrogen as well as a solar powered car and a variety of chemical reactions. We were amazed that a flower crumbled like dust after being in liquid nitrogen and a grape was shattered with a hammer!

We were very grateful for our special show and welcome any parent that would like to share their knowledge in this way with the children.

Many thanks Mr Spriggins. We were wowed that’s for sure!

Library News

Our Project Compassion Second Hand Book Sale raised $255! In week 3 of Term 2, our Library Monitors will be busy again helping at our Scholastic Book Fair!! This event is so much fun and provides our beautiful library with so many new books! Please mark Thursday 16 and Friday 17 May in your diaries. Parent help forms will be sent out closer to this time asking for help on the Sales Desk before and after school and at lunchtime. Thanks again for all your support of reading and our school library.

What’s with the ipads?

You will have seen many examples already this year of the varied and interesting ways in which technology is used at Holy Rosary. Holy Rosary runs a 1-1 device programme for children in Years 1-6. At this time, for reasons of cost, performance and reliability, ipads are the device of choice. The school leases and manages all the devices and employs a teacher (Caroline Mullins) to manage the programme.

Children entering Year One receive a new ipad, and this is replaced with another new ipad at the beginning of Year Four. Our experience at Holy Rosary has been that there is a loss of performance if devices are kept for more than three years, so we replace them to ensure children have access to the latest, reliable, high performance device. The devices are able to run the latest software and apps, and battery charge is good enough to get through the day. The iPads are being managed by a new Mobile Device Management system called Zuludesk.

In the event that a device stops working, we have spare devices at school for the children to use so that there is no ‘down time.’

The judicious use of technology is an important consideration at school, and as such the devices are used to aid in the achievement of learning outcomes.

Everybody knows that technology changes at a rapid rate, and it is frustrating when devices don’t work. Centralising the leasing and management of devices, and renewing them regularly means our children have a good experience with technology.

The IT levy covers the cost of the iPad, insurance, apps, and management. A significant portion of the levy also contributes to the infrastructure (wireless switches, servers display screens to name a few), SEQTA engage, Microsoft licensing and Leading Lights costs (which includes internet access and filtering).

At the end of the contract the iPads are either returned to the supplier\leasing company or they are purchased by the school for use by the PP, Kindy and Staff. When these iPads are 4 years old they are sold to AppleBuyBack. These funds are used to underwrite the technology used in Kindy and PrePrimary.
