Peter Voulkos
Is it really broken..?
All about me
Peter Voulkos was born on January 29, 1924 in Bozeman, MT. He died on February 16, 2002 in Bowling Green, OH. He specialized in ceramics and used clay. He worked in the Abstract expressionism period. Abstract expressionism is a post–World War II art movement in American painting, developed in New York in the 1940's. He won twenty-nine prizes and awards from 1949 through 1955.
Someone like me
A similar artist like Voulkos is John Coplans. The work is similar because they both have the broken pieces of clay put back together to make a whole piece. The work is different because Peter Voulkos worked more on larger pieces than John Coplans.

How do you relate to me
I can relate to this artist because I enjoy “fixing what is broken”. I’m like Peter because he went to college and discovered he wanted to do something with ceramics and when I’m out of college I hope I will be doing something that involves ceramics as a side job. I am also like Peter because I find it really interesting making pieces of artwork that you don’t see everyday.
