Week of Sept. 10th
Coaching & Feedback Rotation: Week C
ARSA Important Information
Progress Reports will be in boxes by end of 6th period tomorrow, 9/10. Distribute to 8th period.
Grading Progress:
Teachers be reminded of the DISD grading policy and ARSA Grading Guidelines.
2 Grade per week. All students should have a minimum of 6 grades going into this week of 9/10.
Tardy Sweeps: (Read Thoroughly)
Goal: 25 tardies or less per grade level / Class 2023, 2024, 2025 per day.
Reward: Grade level with the lowest number of tardies a week gets to use their phones during lunch.
There is an exception: if the number of tardies are the lowest but very far off of our daily goal, no one will earn the reward. As a campus we have successfully implemented this goal and met it more times than not. Our expectation is on time arrival.
We will begin our practice of random tardy sweeps starting this week. Please ensure that you are releasing students when the bell rings.
To make sure this happens, consider the following:
- Pacing of the lesson so DOLs and/or room clean up is complete by the time the bell rings. Scholars are not to be held to complete DOLs or straighten up. This needs to be a part of planning for instruction and a step in your exit procedures.
- Holding a student after class as a consequence for off task behavior is not acceptable. There are classroom process for addressing off task behavior (respect agreements & class room consequences established 2nd day of school). Utilize your plan to address the behavior.
- If you hold a student or student needs to talk to you after class and they are held up for more than a minute, student is to have a pass IF traveling to the other end of the building or if you have used the majority of their 4 minute passing period.
We want to help them learn a part of their "job" as a scholar is on time arrival. Help us, help them, and you. This maintains our tone that we have worked hard to set that on time arrival is the ARSA Way!
Tardy Sweep Consequences:
- serve a lunch detention- an email communication is sent out to the staff by 3rd period. Tardy Sweep scholars are held upon entry to the cafeteria to begin their detention.
- The list sent will include scholars caught in current day AM tardy sweeps (before lunch) and PM tardy sweep (after lunch) from previous day.
- Administrator will provide increased consequence for scholars who are consistently late.

This is a full week of highlighting the importance of academic success throughout middle, high, and post secondary. Please full engage and have this mindset this week of speaking to and about the importance of our scholars understanding their "job" as a scholar:
- Responsible
- Respectful

As well as the importance of having post secondary skills is critical to changing their trajectory of their lives and for many, for their families.

It is important that we recognize ALL the Excellence in Teaching we have in all of areas of our academic programs. The highlights are on a rotation throughout the year and each content/department will be the focus for the week.
Ms. Romero
Ms. Romero has taken on the role of Astronomy and Project Lead the Way (PLTW). This is no easy task, especially in your third year of teaching. Yet, Ms. Romero has jumped right in without fail.
She can always be seen studying, planning, and preparing for our Rangers.
Thank you Ms. Romero for your grit, passion and dedication to your craft!!!
You make being your Coach a joy.

Spotlight on Mr. Scott
Mr. Jones writes:
Mr. Scott came into my class on Tuesday and totally changed the way I thought about teaching my lesson. He was willing to assist any scholar and he asked me questions as if he was the student. It inspired me to not change the way I teach, but to consider some things I didn’t initially.
His spirit and willingness to provide input on my lesson truly helped me this week and will continue to help me going further into the school year.
Spotlight on Social Studies Team, Ms. Wagers, & Mr. Seales
The Social Studies department has started our 2018 with a focus and drive to improve their practice that has created a synergy among them. It is wonderful to see the areas that we are working on as a campus: exemplars, aggressive monitoring, and using our ARSA Annotation strategies present in classes. The mindset of growth and leaning in to team, is evident. Way to go to everyone for your commitment to your craft!
I would like to shout out Ms. Wagers and Mr. Seales for their reflection and action oriented mindset around observation feedback cycle. The responsiveness of both teachers to real time feedback was immediate and it benefited our scholars and sharpened teacher practices. The coaching time was a collaborative and growth oriented. Appreciate the willingness to reflect and try and try again.
Spotlight on 6th Grade, Inclusion / Unit, & Elective Teachers
SPOTLIGHT ON 6th Grade Teachers, Elective Teachers and Inclusion/Unit Teachers
At this time I would like to thank the entire 6th grade team, elective teachers and Inclusion/Unit Teachers. They have all been so patient with me during the scheduling and leveling process. They have welcomed all students to their class with open arms and helped them to settle in if there were changes made and they all worked really hard to notify me if corrections were needed to their students' schedules. Thank you all so very much! You ROCK!!!
Spotlight on Ms. Craig
Ms. Craig stepped into two new arenas this week. First she attempted a station rotation with her scholars to increased their understanding of a historically difficult concept for 6th graders: Unlimited and Limited types of power/leadership and how that connects to types of government (democracy & dictatorship). She tried it, learned from it and is in a more confident place to try it again with her upgrades. Way to jump in Ms. Craig!
Secondly, she had a peer observe her and her scholars. I want to say thank you for welcoming your teammate and I into your room with the focus on everyone learning. I know it was somewhat nerve wracking as it was the first day you did stations, but you had such a positive attitude. Way to be vulnerable and having it benefit your instruction and contribute to the sense of team in Social Studies.
Spotlight on Ms. Powell
Ms. Powell is one of our new teachers and she has been working so hard! I specifically want to highlight how coachable she is. She has been soaking up knowledge and immediately putting things into practice! I admire her grit and tenacity and I’m proud to be her teammate!!
Spotlight on Ms. Luckey & Mrs. Morrison
SPOTLIGHT ON Ms. Luckey and Mrs. Morrison (ARSA Counselors)
At this time I would like to say special thanks to my wonderful Co-Counselors for all their hard work in regards to scheduling and collaborating on upcoming counseling action items. They have both stepped up to lend a helping hand when needed in order to ensure our program needs are met while completing the scheduling process. They truly give meaning to the word TEAM!!
